Ive been hanging out with IRL friends recently and they've been taking up all the time I spend watching vtubers. I've grown less attatched to gura and I want to quit watching her

I don't really like vtubers.or their POSITIVE VIBES obsessed fans anymore. I got into it last year when it blew up, and my interest has waned as they failed to grow, innovate, progress or do things that interest me. I still can't understand japanese holos because I stopped doing my reps, while english content's become so stale, homogenous and watered down that it's no longer entertaining. I only watch a couple streams once in a blue moon, barely watch clips anymore, and only come here for the dopamine rush of laughing at the slow decline of the vtubing giant known as hololive.

I've long since lost faith in ever finding a chuba who actually appeals to my tastes, and this is just my way of riding the bubble down as it bursts from the overwhelming sameness of the vast majority of vtubers.

I completely stopped watching JP not long after EN was released. Actually understanding the chuubas simply got too convenient. I even had what could have been seen as an oshi back then.

I have been perpetually at least a full month behind in VODs ever since new years when I decided to commit fully to my oshi and watch everything. I can count with one hand the streams I've seen live ever since. Also I can barely go a stream without imagining her warmth and fapping to her, especially the talk streams.

Also, Ina is probably the girl whose personality clicks the most with mine, but I don't like watching her because she's so cheery and skilled and talented. Former athlete, straight A student, not even an arts student but still a pro, probably got a prestigious STEM degree instead, loving family, always calm and collected, a true fan of all of hololive, probably the perfect friend too. She's a real life Mary Sue and she makes me jealous.

Sometimes I kinda fear that my admiration of vtubers (especially recently) is only because they fill a void of entertainment and interaction that my friends used to provide. I've steadily watched the group of people I chat and fuck around with on the regular deplete to nothing in real time. Sometimes it's because some of my friends turned out to be completely insufferable and annoying to listen to, even as background noise. Sometimes it's an embarrassing misunderstanding that quickly spirals into a heated argument that leaves everyone involved with permanently soured trust, even after bandaging it with a "well that was shit, back to old times, eh?" Sometimes it's just plain bad luck. People have school, work, other friends they have to make time for. Big friend groups inevitably break off into smaller, focused cliques. As I get closer and closer to real adulthood, it's getting harder and harder to have regular people I can chat the shit with at a moment's notice.

So while before I might've scoffed at the idea of watching long hours of a stream, now, all of a sudden, long form content of a cool anime girl talking to you suddenly had far more appeal to me. There's enough hours of VODs that I could watch vtubers for my entire life, even after they retire. I don't have to spend every day wondering if my friends even think I exist. I can just pop on a VOD and let my fears go away. It's a textbook escapist fantasy.

There is a silver lining to this, however. I'm clearly aware that the relationship I have with chuubas, even ones who don't pull crazy numbers like holos do, is a parasocial one. However, it's thanks to this shared interest that I've found a number of communities to mess around in. Yes, even this one. 99% of the threads here are garbage but I'm grateful at least for the couple diamonds in the rough.

The fun for me in Vtubers is the live streaming part, the real time "interaction". I don't enjoy VODs no matter how much I like the chuuba. They fill the void that my friend circles left. The void of spending time with others. I know it's unhealthy parasocial stuff but I can't help it.

Some anons may find the above not too great a sin, but because of all this my oshi changes depending on how the schedules have been trending.
I still consider myself a Takodachi and I really like Ina but I've caught only a couple streams in the past few weeks due to work. Pomu then came along and had the perfect schedule where she's usually streaming right when I get home from work. Now that Pomu quit her day job I'm actually afraid that I will start missing her streams too, and again I find VODs boring so I won't view them.
