There was that one time they said complimenting each other would feel weird because it's would be kind of like complimenting themselves. Basically they see each other as part of one being. You can use this to explain everything:
- Even though they have each other, they still feel alone.
- Playing eroge together is fine because of course it's normal to play them "by yourself".
- If they hug, it's more like self-care to them (if we compliment them a lot, it might lead to more "self-love" and hugging)
- If they have sex, it's an extension of masturbation to them.
Basically, many things that would be categorized as romantic in our perspective, it's a self-relation in their perspective. This explains why a lot of things we consider weird, for them "it's just normal", "it just makes sense in our household". Technically incest might not be out of the question, but because it's just so different from them and they are tired of being misunderstood, they would heavily filter what they show to the outside world. (+it's illegal for them anyway so there's not really much choice).

Also, Since debut, I feel like they may be slowly splitting from one unit, more into individual persons, showing differences and wanting individual attention. At first they were like "we do everything together, we are FUWAMOCO". Especially in the Mori twin show there was the remark of how maybe in the future they can't be as close as right now (breaks my heart though). Though this is still highly speculative and could be just a random mis-speak. Maybe they've always been like that and it's just them getting more comfortable with new audience.
Anyway, the implication of splitting would be that what was once normal for them could get a romantic meaning. They could realize it as repulsive and become more distant from each other, or have (in perception) new, true romance bloom between them.

Maybe. They clearly want to be seen as individuals, though. I think this was ONE of the many reasons they always hated the "fuwawa isn't real" meme. It played into them being literally being the same being with no individuality.
They obviously love each other a great deal and are absolutely more important to each other than anyone else, but I think they really want to be separate people. That's why they always try to make us choose. Not because they want to trick us or make each other feel bad. It's because they want us to view them individually while still living both.

"Fuwawa isn't real" was bad for various reasons, like implying "your sister is dead", especially considering how codependent and important they are to each other, or implying that Mococo is literally insane with imaginary sister, or pushing Fuwawa from main character -> side character -> NPC -> non-existence.
Whether they want to be seen as individuals or as a unit, it's complicated because they have said both. In early streams they emphasized multiple times that you can't marry just one, and in the identity stream the talk about 3 oshis, Fuwawa, Mococo and FUWAMOCO that are all important. But lately they've been fishing for more individual attention.
Maybe they have found the charms of individuality recently and this aspect is still cooking. It definitely feels better getting recognized directly and not always bunched together. But their bond is still very special and they want to connect to the outside world together, not separately (they don't want to play games separately because it's better together)

Mixeranon here, I'm here but I'm generally burnt out in life, getting the LTST done was basically miracle. Also I see many problems with the proposed Chistmas song, it's in japanese = more difficult to sing, with split parts there would be less singers making individual voices more recognizable which would turn people off from submitting, also with full length song and more parts it's more work for less time, so not happening for me this time.
