I think vtubing is bigger in Japan than it is overseas, but overseas vtubing is a subsection of anime fans. It's amazing it's big enough as it is, but they should really know their audience.

i think it worked with SF6 because it had Korone at forefront and she started with playing SF5 at the end of its life and struggling against CPU to now being able to hold her own online in SF6 so people, incidentally, got exposed to the "idol journey" where she learned how to play Street Fighter
of course it also helped that all the Street Fighter pros, because Capcom unbelievably made SFL a successful franchise, were all too willing to teach all these new streamers incl. all the big non vtuber JP streamers
