Matrixfag here. I thought it would be good to post an update on what we've been doing over the past month or so and what our plans are for the near future. Let's jump right into it. First off, finetunes. A while back we tried fine-tuning Llama-2 70B with our data - unfortunately, we lost access to the hardware we used to train it mid-way, and the model was prone to cuckery. Given those things, we scrapped that model for now and we'll eventually get to re-training it. We, like a lot of people here, know that Mistral is pretty good, and we'll be fine-tuning it with our data soon since we have the required compute for that. In any case however, our efforts are right now focused on our very own model, I'm gonna get to that.

We kinda underestimated how much effort the website would take. Despite it sitting squarely in the Two More Weeks bin, I'll say that we're absolutely still working hard on it and it should be (hopefully) October. More updates on that as it comes.

The big news is that we're gonna gun for our own foundational model, built from the ground-up for the purpose of excellent conversation and roleplay. There's no guarantees about anything yet, but we've been busy in the background setting this project up and I'm pretty excited to have it going. The model will likely be based on the RWKV5 architecture with a few extra kicks if I'm able to innovate on them, which allows for rather long context length at relatively low inference cost. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we'll likely get that going in November and at the very least have a "demo" version of the model out by then.

By all means, if you have any suggestions for the pre-train model (including papers) or questions, feel free to reply to this post. Admittedly haven't been able to lurk in a while, but I'll be sure to reply to anything. As usual, keep your smiles boys. We're cooking up some good stuff.

Previous Pyg models were all fine-tuned, meaning that there was an already-existing large language model. We fine-tuned the weights on top of this large LLM to produce the Pygmalion models. Imagine one was making a cake. Fine-tuning a model is like taking a plain cake and putting icing on top of it. But now, instead of simply icing the cake, we're gonna bake a new cake entirely, specifically for our specialized roleplay/conversation/entertainment domain.
