The new adjustment time definitely has a couple downsides. The old one required you to do your twitter reps/speculate which streams would be big, with the new time most streams are happening/have happened so everyone knows what to buy. Another downside is that big streams/endurance streams to X subs get their subs and view counts split up. You sold one. It's gone. It shouldn't factor into your average purchase price anymore. If I sold a silver coin, I'd strike THAT specific coin from my inventory, and from my average purchase price.
The fact that your MPP can change, with no change in the number of coins held, or money in your wallet, should be a big enough indicator that it's useless.

NASFAQ isn't storing the actual meat and potatoes behind the mean purchase price. It may calculate it that way, but it only stores the mean itself. Every coin you own is treated like you paid MPP for it, when it comes to updating the calculation. This is fine if all you do is buy. Once you sell a bunch, buy a bunch, etc. you can balloon your MPP in whatever direction you want.

I did accounting for a year's worth of retail. I didn't track shit that way at all, but it wasn't like NASFAQ either. I put all of my purchases in, at their respective prices, and all of my sales in, at their respective prices. I never used the "mean" for anything.
If my most recent box of widgets was 10% more expensive, say $110, I have to sell it for 10% more to maintain profit margins. If I still have two boxes of widgets at the old price ($100) left, my MPP is $103. What about after I sell a box? Is it $105 now? Is it back to $100? Which box do I sell? Does it matter? What if I buy a new box at $115? NASFAQ would just do $103 x 3 + $115 / 4. Yeah, you get the same value in this scenario, but after you stack a big chain of buys/sells onto the the same value in this scenario, but after you stack a big chain of buys/sells
The mean "means" nothing if it's product I already sold. Your MPP is meaningless if it was calculated using coins you already sold, because when you buy a new coin, it's going to take MPP of Pn coins and multiply it by P-some number smaller than n.

That was just an example I chose to simplify it, and illustrate weighted average cost. If it were FIFO and I sold one, my MPP would become $2.50. LIFO, $1.50. Both track "specific" purchases. WAC could be calculated periodically, which would "reset" it in a sense, but it isn't. Perpetual WAC, which is what honk and devchama are apparently using, makes my head hurt.

I get that FIFO is preferable for some people but weighted average is a lot more practical here. Honestly it's down to personal preference but calling it useless doesn't make sense. Since you were tracking perishables it makes sense to assume you were selling the oldest first (or rather I hope you were) but in this case they're homogenous coins and when they were purchased doesn't matter. The way nasfaq is doing it is how I'd do it, you assume you're selling from all the boxes you have in your inventory at once, not from a single individual box. You can balloon your costs by buying/selling repeatedly in cycles, but that reflects reality. I don't know which damn box I've sold from so I just average them out. In your case, yes, if you've sold from the first box then calculating things the way nasfaq does it doesn't make sense but since they're homogenous and when each item in inventory was purchased doesn't really matter.

Weighted average is blind to player fuckups, yes. That's one of its detractors but nonetheless fact of the matter is that after you've purchased that coin at a high price, the cost of your inventory has gone higher. It indicates that because of your fuckup, the profit margin you get from selling all your goods is lower than had you not fucked up.
Before the purchase, you had 2 coins at MPP of 2k. Market price is, let's call it 11k so the numbers work out here to give you an MPP of 5k. The profit margin before you fucked up was (2*11k - 2*2k)/22k = 18k/22k = 82%. After you fucked up the profit margin on your entire inventory is (3*11k - 3*5k)/33k = 55%. We can even calculate it out individually and it'll give you the same answer. Point is, after that purchase you've made MPP is telling you the truth, your profit margin after selling all the coins has gone down.
