On that note what's everyone's ranking for the series? For me it is 3 by a quarter mile: story is engaging and still fun, the boss is one of if not the best written and nuanced female MC in a game series in general, Ocelot's cannonical first "you're pretty good", also Ocelot's literal cat call, KUWABARA KUWABARA.

Outside of that I think 5 has best gameplay, 4 I forget even playing the video game parts but as a fan of the dumb story it was a good movie, 2 is the one everyone get obsessed with being mind blowing but it was really when Kojima was showing that he is actually a hack that thinks he is smarter than he is, and 1 is a solid old video game with some classic monologues.

the biggest mistake was gating the specials behind lengthy cooldowns, imho making them bit less impressive/damaging, putting some openings/extending some startup animations and just having them operate like normal DMC moves would make the entire game twice as interesting (even if it became easier in the process)

currently most of the games is sitting on the charged specials a ton of time because you want to unload them exactly during the stagger window to maximize the DPS bonus

Eh. If you're really desperate for some comfy brain-off DMC-at-home gameplay, I guess. You have a lot of options to lab with and the big spectacle fights can be fun, but it has JRPG length sidequests/progression so if you don't give a shit about the story it really depends how much fun you can have yourself juggling mooks for each small encounter
