As someone who has played it a lot, Alien Isolation really isn't a game for replaying. It can be insanely frustrating, because the Alien AI is smart enough that it can exploit certain bugs/oversights accidentally and kills can feel incredibly cheap. Not to mention the story is the exact fucking same and long as hell, and half the time you're dealing with androids.
She probably should've just gone for the survival mode.

The thing is, the game is working against you, which is normal for a lot of games, but with the way the AI works, you don't really have any way to combating it. The AI always knows where you are and hints the Xenomorph's AI where you are. And, tho we don't exactly have a real life scenario to match this to, how is it realistic that the Xenomorph is that omnipotent? Any sensory perception it would have would need to be consistent, but in this case it is a blind creature having it's hand held and led around by an unseen force. The utter randomness of how the AI will perceive the clues and where it will be at any given time makes the game just fucking unfair.

Games without logic are just frustrating, not fun.

Using the movies as a basis of comparison is pretty apt to what I meant, tho. Movies have structure as written by the authors to create suspense and fear. The Xenomorphs there always arrive at either a point of maximum tension or minimum tension. There's never any randomness to it. In this game, tho, it is random. Most other games have programmed events that you normally have to find a way around while this one does not. While that element of uncertainty can add to the tension, once the game is no longer "scary", it just becomes a pain in the ass. Even Mouse is at a point right now where the Alien itself doesn't really freak her out because the gameplay has become a chore.

In my over 100 hours playing that game, never once did I feel like it was omnipotent or using information it wouldn't have. Sometimes, would it catch me through a tiny crack it wouldn't normally be able to, or see me through a doorway or some shit? Yes. And that was really fucking frustrating. But that's a glitch based on how the game works and can't be blamed on the AI, as it's just exploiting what it can to win.
The main thing that's so damn frustrating about the alien is it's SO smart. People talk about how advanced the AI for it is but until you play and start to pick up on it you really don't understand it. It'll legitimately change strategies based on how you hide from it to catch you out in the open. It'll fucking go through a door and wait on the other side looking through the glass or double back to catch you just when you think it's safe. Granted, I really felt this while playing on the hardest difficulty, but on that difficulty I legitimately felt like I was playing a PvP game. I stopped thinking of it as an AI, and actually as an entity. It's fucking absurd how well it's programmed.
Sorry for the long rant but I really love Alien and Alien: Isolation as well.
