Planning to. I'm not used to digital art media.
20+ years photoshop experience though and I have a tablet and clip studio paint for linework.
Modern coloring and on the fly editing techniques are over my head but I found some videos that can help.

I am not going to publish my art online unless it's fucking pristine. My oshi deserves my best.

Well, that's the problem. Those tumblr artists are all women and almost all female artists are obsessed with finding their own ~unique style~ (which never really turns out be particularly unique). They're not anime/manga purists like 4channers, And the rest of them never actually learn to draw properly.

My oshi was the last person I drew. I'm in the midst of trying to get really good not just to catch my oshi's attention but to see how far I can get, maybe be one of those artist alley sellers.

Draw a fuckton and integrate some fundamental exercises into your routine. All the time wasted on looking for the perfect resource is time that you could've used drawing.
You want to draw anime? Draw a lot of anime shit you like. Add some anatomy and figure drawing resources in there and you're done.

You only think anime heads have a spherical core. In reality, regardless of whether you use a sphere or a block, as long as you have all the points down pat (eyes in relation to nose in relation to mouth, etc), you can mold the head into the typical anime shape. This is why fundamentals are important. You have to know how things work first before you can break them.

I drew a few months when I first got my drawing tablet but everything looked so bad I decided I'd need to study before drawing again. I went on to watch dozens of hours of videos, and still do watch them when they're in my YT recommendations, but whenever I try to draw I still don't know where to start.

It's pointless to simply read or watch something without practising. If you think that you should improve - study your fundamentals (draw from photos, draw from life, study form, perspective, values, composition, colour, anatomy, etc). If you feel like you've got at least a basic grasp of them - study your favourite artists (copy their work, make your own work by trying to adapt techniques of said artists, etc.). If you feel like you've got a grasp of what makes the art of your favourite artists really click for you and you're able somewhat consistently replicate the same effect in your art, you're almost there and the only thing that's left for you is to continue doing what you're doing, while ideally experimenting and trying new things along the way.
The key is consistent and thorough practise. Set your priorities straight and aim to improve little by little. If you need books or reference material, /ic/ did a good deal of job for you.
