As much as the goal is to portray the "person" you'll always be writing a character you're interpreting based off what you can infer from how they act. This is true for every chuuba since we're all writing based off of streams and tiny bits of lore.

And my point is that you can't condense Suisei's personality into an archetype because she doesn't fit within any single description. She's not psychopathic, and just plays up her reputation when queried for laughs and she isn't incestuous; idol and girlfriend aren't personality traits and whilst she is a perfectionist, it doesn't come across as a main personality trait. What she is, is carefully manicured for public consumption. She's "normal", without any particularly defining characteristics. If I was to write about her going to the beach for a barbeque with friends, I'd be at a complete loss, because while I have an idea of I'd write her, she's too "normal" to sufficiently pin down any quirks or representations that set her apart as a distinct character.

By the way, the phrase is "missing the forest for the trees", which is exactly what you're doing.

Yeah, I know, I flipped the phrase because I'm saying you're doing the opposite. You're focusing too much on suisei as a whole rather that you're missing her character in all of the little things she does.
Though honestly at this point we're clearly at an impasse about what we think of suisei's character because for me, personally, I see her as a cute weirdo that lucked out into her idol dream and now has a rep built around her as being an underdog idol that made it. I see her 'core' as being an autistic weirdo that's putting her all into her own self-insert dream. Meanwhile you seem to have to your own conclusion that she's just a normal girl without any defining characteristics. At this point we're just going to talk past each other since we're seeing two things coming out of one image. Maybe talk with some hoshiyomis and see what they have to say if you want to see more alternative thoughts about what Suisei's character is.

I agree that she is “normal” by most standards but that doesn’t mean she has no quirks which would make her hard to write using the scenario you’ve given. She’s confident and extroverted, so would be the one doing a lot of talking at the barbecue to close any gaps between her friends. She’s a prude too, so it’s possible she’d wear a jacket over her swimsuit. She has a bit of a foul mouth, so her banter would consist of joking death threats. I've just been mentally fucked for a bit juggling a lot of personal life stuff ranging from medical issues, family passing like earlier today haha and work ramping up due to the holiday season coming and deciding it's a good time to introduce a lot of wide sweeping changes to shit that's already been established for awhile and giving us more work as a direct result. I think this point gets brought up every time we have a how to characterize chuubas discussion but yeah. At some point you do have to infer/make shit up based off of what you grok of the characte. Real people are too complex for fictional stories. If you try to write something as organic as real life, it just becomes a weird mess with no flavour. You have to find the essence (which can be a vague feeling that you intuitively grasp) of the vtuber and from that distill a fictional character that you can make move and talk in the theatre of your mind.

In the fic I'm planning the setting is a city-state called Holo City where people with animal ears and such are normal (and Yagoo is the head of state). I don't know yet if the setting is going to be super important for the story but I like having a Duckburg type of setting like Gotham City, Night City, Glitch City, Academy City etc. where weird things and people exist and also that I can make up all the rules. The first actual fic I released here was Extrapedestrial which I wrote in response to the rare Iofi prompt without much ambition and it ended up accordingly. It also takes place in a world with weird social norms for the sake of portraying the petplay in a certain way as was explored again some threads ago. But I think it does its job adequately.

I was a lot harsher on it in the past but I've come around to it. I think that Cooking for a Comet (and the second entry) is a bit basic and with the context of how the series went, could use a bit more bite to it. The serendipitous nature of the series is part of its charm but I feel like it could use a little more cohesion between entries. Part of me wants to do a remaster of sorts but the other part feels like its best to leave sleeping dogs lie.

The first fic I read here was Kintsugi and it was compelling and engaging enough to convince me to throw my hat into the ring. So it's okay I guess
I reread it recently and I still think it holds up, even if it just kind of ends without much fanfare.
