What is /asp/?
/asp/ is a thread for vtubers to give and receive advice related to vtubing.

>Should I stream on Twitch or YouTube?
Most people would recommend against streaming on YouTube if you don't have an established subscriber base from making videos.

>Is there an audience for X?
Would you watch someone do X?
Is someone already doing X?

>What video editor should I use for editing clips?
DaVinci Resolve if you don't feel like spending money or pirating, otherwise use Vegas Pro or Premiere.

>1. Are you a girl or a boy?

>4. Did you see what twitter/discord is saying?
Thou shalt not waste time on their foul words.
>5. The baiters are insulting your aspies!
Thou shalt not waste time on their foul words.

I said you can ignore it, or mute/ban/block someone if they're a nuisance. Do that and move on. Don't take to Twitter to angrily 'vent' about your audience TO your audience. This is rule 2 in the sticky. If this is "the worst advice" to you, then anon, I...
Anyways I'm failing rule 3 by even responding, so this is my final word on it. General advice, practice good PR and at least pretend you like the people who give you the time of day. be frendry

Why do the newfags like Camui and Layla treat this thread like their personal diary?
I don't think we've had people this annoying in the thread since Haru, but even Haru wasn't this obnoxious or egotistical.
The curious part is how Camui and Layla are on opposites sides. Layla is the vtweeter type that Camui keeps shittalking about, and Camui is the type of person to talk shit about other vtubers that made Layla make that tweet that went viral.

If the post you're talking about is the one about her singing, I actually had commented on that before I ever posted on /asp/, and I encouraged her! I told her to keep going and that there's a charm to not being perfect at something. The post she made wasn't arrogant or berating others. Those are the types of vtweeters I take issue with. Layla comes across as gentle and kind, I really can't see her spending hours at a time shitting out tweet after tweet

If you want more views and follows, share your links every chance you get in all social media (using hashtags), share them with your friends and family, just share them. If you are playing a specific game, share clips or videos in the subreddits, facebook groups and discords of that game (read their rules first). You need to spend some of your time advertising/sharing content for it to be seen imo.

For a few years, I put out original content which consistently reached upwards of 1m+ impressions and was featured on various "buzzfeed"esque sites (including Buzzfeed themselves) which I wore as a badge of pride at the time but not so much anymore. Remnants of this stuff can still be found around the internet. I stopped because after 2 years, I was running out of ideas and couldn't deliver quality as consistently.
You can do all the mental gymnastics you want to convince yourself that all this has been worthless, but even failed opportunities provide things of value. Only a pessimist who quite literally WILL never make it will be unable to find that value, and subsequently apply that to their next venture. Vtubing also isn't hot and new, it's been popular for years. If I wanted to capitalize on that aspect, I would have done it in 2020 or 2021.
Anyways.
I think you will suffer a worse fate than I will, even if this ends up being a flop for me. Your mentality is so poor, that you will not only not make it, you will also refuse to dive back in or get into something else with new knowledge or an improved mindset. You will sit and wallow in it and hate everyone for your own shortcomings. You will keep throwing the same ball at the wall and hoping it sticks. You are an angry, spiteful person who could fill a family size Dorito bag with the amount of chips on your shoulder, but you couldn't pop a can of Pringles. You think openly shitting on people who try to care about you is the way to go. The only people I see doing this are terminally-on-Twitter 0views, which is where my grievance came from because they're a dime a dozen. So GOOD LUCK!
You aren't meant to be an entertainer. You are meant to be a seething retail worker.

When you're a competitive person, it can be discouraging to watch others who started out on the same playing field succeeding where you can't, even if you're putting in the same amount of effort. Sometimes your brain says "I deserve it more than this person!"
I think you're dealing with that mentality. It's probably not personal, but that's not the kind of mentality you want to surround yourself with if it's making you unhappy. I feel like a lot of new streamers go to Twitch just because of the legacy. "Oh hey, that's where streamers do their thing" and then they sit in 0 view hell like Lance there for the next however long due to it being a no-growth platform with a horrible pay split. Your success on Twitch will depend on how many people are willing to sift through page after page of streamers who are doing better than you and then deciding to watch you for whatever reason.
Seriously, Twitch staff have even said they don't care if you grow on Twitch, they want you to grow elsewhere and then bring your audience to Twitch. If you consider how many of the big streamers on Twitch have actually done just that, you realize how much Twitch actually blows for people who haven't already made it in some capacity.

Oh, thanks for the insight! I didn't know that's how it worked. He should be putting focus on getting eyes on VODs and clips with these numbers, and YouTube is the platform for that. Also I like the benefit of your VODs staying up. Another thing that I like about YouTube is that you can get a better insight into who your audience is as well; for example I know that my PL had a big overlap with Vinesauce, Jerma and Vargskelethor. So I can get a rough idea of what people like about my streams/personality and lean in on that, whereas I don't *think* Twitch shows you who your followers watch. Why is what bad? Posting videos on youtube? Where did you get that from anything posted in this thread? Do you realize that streaming and making produced video content are different things with different workflows, different marketable features and entirely different audiences? They're also not exclusive of eachother. Though, given how your conversation went with that other anon, I don't think you realize you can do both things or that making youtube content at all isn't actually necessary. I'm sure that the advice to "just go to youtube and post your vods" will lead to some sort of success though because uh...
oh right, you didn't actually say other than just assuming that views will materialize on youtube.

I don't think that you understand why people stream on Twitch over youtube. Nor why your example (talking about two of the largest fleshstreamers for some reason) didn't include those two migrating to making produced content on Youtube.

Me and that guy are 2 different anons. I'm the guy that said post VODs. Views absolutely do not just materialize, and stream VODs are still niche content. But they will get some something if you write good descriptions, utilize tags, make good thumbnails and have passable audio, don't go on long breaks. You'll get even more if you can get your VODs in front of your target audience to influence the algorithm. Just dumping the VOD with no extra work won't cut it, but if you at least make some kind of effort you'll get more views than what Lance gets.
You should read what I'm replying to. I'm replying to an anon who was talking about Twitch being a bad platform. I brought up the big fleshwalkers as an example that even the guys at the top think it's a bad platform. And then I replied to an entirely different anon altogether. You also did this in the most content-free way you could to the point it may as well just be an appeal to authority fallacy. You haven't actually told anyone what is wrong with the platform, you've only told them "well, these guys with totally different circumstances producing totally different content don't like the site so uh, you shouldn't too?" Its a non-point. About as much of a non-point as comparing random youtube uploads to Lance's stream content.

Not to fully discredit your example, but Lance is having a unique issue where he's really good at one thing, but doesn't do that one thing for every stream. He's great at talking about and playing card games, but whenever he plays a guy or does something not card game related he doesn't get views. He does decent with tcg stuff but is stubborn or something along those lines and won't just do that.

It's a valid point that when someone who is benefitting the most from the platform has strong issues with the platform, it's an indicator that said platform is probably not all it's cracked up to be.

This demonstrates a painfully surface level understanding of the platform while also talking about things (pay split lmao) that are super irrelevant to 90% of content creators on the platform. Well be it far from me to tell someone to pigeonhole themselves if they don't want to. It seems he averages 60-70 views total when he plays TCGs. Common sense would be to go with what works, but could just be he doesn't want TCGs to be the focus of his channel exclusively. I'm guessing his CCV isn't high enough for him to feel compelled to go that route.

You mean I'll disagree with your conclusion based on threadbare evidence again. Which is probably true. Also, saying "I've seen people grow on youtube" means nothing in the context of this conversation. "I've seen people make money selling baskets." is also a true statement, but I'm not going to go racing to make baskets so I can make whatever their profit margin might be.

How about this equally true statement. "I've seen people get really big on Twitch and sustain themselves happily off their proceeds. I've also seen people stream there because they enjoy doing so and the concept of doing it as a profession is not for them."

We've both now stated absolutely true, absolutely useless things.

Twitch is a networking based platform. Raid culture is heavily involved in that networking as well as streams being grouped by content/game/category. If you're not working with other streamers or raiding into other streamers, you're missing out on a lot of that growth. Having an external vod locker (because Twitch VODs are ass) is ok, but its not really going to drive content to your streams because the conversion rate between youtube content and twitch content is abysmal and twitter content to twitch content conversion is even worse.

More importantly is that Twitch growth is much more accessible from zero than it is on youtube specifically because raids and the catalog both exist. If you're joe chuuba trying to stream League of Legends in a catalog of thousands, you're probably not going to get pass through traffic unless your tags make you stand out in some way or unless you've already made contact and made friends with another streamer in a similar category to yours to direct you those views.
That's one or two things. I'm not going to write you a whole "how to twitch" guide in a post. The point is that streaming on twitch is a lot different than posting content to a Youtube channel and treating them as though they're somehow the same is a horrible mistake.

Youtube discoverability for streamers is vanishingly small. Note that I said "for streamers". Disabuse yourself of the idea that "growth" means to ever make a single stand alone video. Streamers stream, youtube video makers make youtube videos. These are different skillsets that demand a different approach and tend to draw entirely different audiences.

Well, this is a vtuber board so that narrows us down to the vast majority of vtubers because they all came after Justin.tv was dead and gone with the Twitch rebrand/merge. We can also narrow out any vtubers who started on youtube first and "brought in" that audience. That just leaves us with the vast majority of indie vtubers posted to here, /wvt/ and /lig/. Granted, the much larger channels have either branched into doing their own fixed content that they also post to youtube in addition to doing their streams on Twitch, but that's more of a market expansion thing than a "must do or their brand doesn't function" thing. The same also applies to a large number of the fleshwalkers who also didn't come from Justin or migrate in from outside. Again, this is a site of millions with tens of thousands (I haven't looked at last stats so that's probably a magnitude larger) partners. Presuming they're all OGs or migrants is very shortsighted.

>raiding shouldn't be the absolute only way for growth
Literally nobody said this. Before you call somebody a cultist for disagreeing with you spend more time understanding their position. It stops you from projecting like this. Twitch raid culture is extremely important to growth and aids in the accelerated growth that Twitch streamers experience compared to their youtube counterparts because they form not only inter-streamer relationships and networks, but also networks between your viewers and the regular viewers of those you raid. These are both very good things for growth. You're also injecting a "should" into a discussion about what is and isn't. So whatever you think "should" be is just, like, your opinion mayne.

>Literally ignoring the fact that people can look up the game you are playing and find not only your stream but also your VOD
You can do both of those things on Twitch as well. These are not distinct except that if I go to youtube and search for [name of game here] there is a zero percent chance I will find your 1 view channel and stream/VOD unless you're literally the only person who has ever streamed or made a video about that game. Comparing that to twitch categories is laughable.
