I read the membership discussion from the previous page, do Holos normally gate content behind different tiers of membership? I've mostly watched Fauna and with her you get everything in the first $5 tier, with the other tiers being just for support if you feel like it. I guess I just assumed that's how it was for everyone.

If I was to guess it would be because it creates a divide in the fanbase and a different atmosphere, albeit subtly. For example, it's fair in normal streams for a holo to refer to membership streams, because everyone gets to watch them if they just pay $5. If they were to suddenly get more personal with the few $100 members though, and refer to content that only a few people ever get to see, then it might create not just jealousy, but resentment among the rest. It's a fine line to thread, and I think most holos feel like it's less of a headache to just give everyone the same deal, especially since they will still have to justify the higher cost of the elevated membership if they set that expectation. Holos seem to have a lot of things to do behind the scenes already, and extra membership content just adds to that burden.
All that being said, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with higher-tier content being a thing. It's just not as simple as it might appear.

My JP indie kamioshi has 4 tiers, 1st one is 3 dollars, 2nd is 5, 3rd is 20 and 4th is 99. She gives signed images / wallpapers to her tier 3 and 4 members first. HOWEVER they get unlocked 2 months later to the other tiers, so they don't miss anything besides 2 months of exclusivity that no one really cares about if it becomes free anyway.
She also did a personal name signing for every single member at any tier, even the emote tier and emailed them personally. The emote tier didn't get to see her signing it (as it was a mem stream) but they still got their personal signed cards through email, each with their name and a personal msg (that was different for everyone and not just some random generic thing.)

We used to get private very comf streams each month with her and it was pretty enjoyable with if I can recall correctly only about ~100 viewers during lives bringing it down to small corpo/indie levels of interaction. She got way too drunk one time during a movie watchalong and chat was all drunk too which was pretty fun and one of my fave streams, but it eventually did all have to go.
I'm not sure how much people were complaining outside of 4chan but here people were constantly going on about it, and she did recognize it created a class divide in the deadbeats and made her have to put out more streams per month than she needed to and that it was a mistake separating the tiers. It was certainly nice getting more personal content, but by it's nature it's going to breed a class of very identifiable obnoxious favourites, particularly amongst the fan artists whose art will get bumped up in importance and popularity due to the closeness the artists achieve with their oshi and the oshi in turn effectively privately commissioning unpaid work behind closed doors simply by the discussion of the fans art, future stream ideas or any topic in general
