Literally the worst thing that can happen to an entertainment medium is for it to get popular. Once shit starts spreading through the general population it gets overly commercialized and sanitized. Radio died, TV died, the internet's dying, anything becoming accessible to normals is the point where it starts going downhill.

I genuinely feel bad for people in the 3-4view territory. This market is so flooded that your career is pretty much permanently at risk of falling apart if you take a long break with under 1k consistent viewers.

I understand why some people cater so hard to schizo parasocials considering they're a slightly less fickle audience, unfortunately if you even hint at having a roommate you are pretty much doomed so it's just another form of stress.

Breaking Bad's mainstream popularity got us Better Call Saul. As a sidenote: producing a TV series is pretty expensive and you won't get new seasons if they aren't popular.
