They probably haven't expired but are likely currently in negotiations. The debuted in September, its possible the contracts expire one year after debut, but its likely they actually started 2-3 months before September. Since months of work went into character design, asset design, rehearsals, etc...

Hell, Mori debuted with a fully produced song, that had to be nearly 2 months of work minimum.

Considering that, June or July is likely the month that contracts expire. Even if they don't expire until September, you'd probably start negotiations around now.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Vshojo collabs came from the negotiations. All of HoloEN, but especially Gura and Mori can afford to be strong negotiators for this contract renewal.

Everything Mori did at hololive was for the better. The en girls aren't idols because their target audience doesn't see them as such. They may call them that but to the west, they're just streamers. And that isn't a bad thing. The en girls had to find newer ways to expand thier audience without speed learning how to speak japanese to capitalize on the eastern audience. And thanks to that, their audience isn't a small niche group like how it is in the east. In thier first year they were able to out grow most of their jp counterparts.
