you are missing a lot of infos here. like they applied multiple times. there is a cooldown on applying. If GGN had any brain there was a non comeptition clause for at least half a year like other corpos do.

Cover's management shakeup apparently was approx. end of 2022, so if Jap needed some time to settle in and figure things out and lay out a strategy for the next gen, they probably were not really-really hiring until like Jan/Feb and then from there on had to sort through thousands of apps. You must consider that, if Omega basically had promising future hires bookmarked on his end which would clear up a lot of the busy work, Jap might have taken all his notes and plans and priorities and dumpster fired them to start over from scratch to not have his taint reach out into the next gen. Starting from truly 0 also takes time. So it took Jap a while to wrap it up but he clearly did his homework and put reasonable thought into strategic hires for it to not just be Council 2.0 blah but feel more like an exciting return to form like early Myth - not only did he accomplish this but exceeded it IMO. So it took a long fucking time but the cream rose to the top regardless. Was it worth the wait? Yes actually, although it would have been nice if we got exactly-this a year ago, well we didn't. Maybe it's a good thing - if you wanted EN3 pre-Jap we might have had something completely different, and almost guaranteed we would not have our adorable doggies. Some actually the more I think about it yes it was worth the wait, it had to be done this way for holoEN's future to be restored.

Why would that be a big brain move? How exactly was anyone else hiring the girls, even if it was the next day, going to cost them anything? So far the only affect on GGN of Hololive hiring them is a few extra dollars in ad revenue.

Why would they enforce a non compete clause when it was GGN who laid them off because they were shutting down the project?

I remember in an offhand comment Shiori said it was around February that "things got hectic" for her, or something on those lines, so I guess it checks out.

It's about securing your assets. I didn't watch them at all because they were streaming at jp prime time when i had other things i knew and liked to watch and then there were a lot of anti posts saying they are just here to promote their company and building up for the next game.

There was no audition for GGN, which means MG approached them. The contracts likely would have been more favorable to the girls, so there was likely no non-conpete or a super short one.

I doubt there was a non-compete
Most countries don't use US law as an example for how they do non-competes
I remember here in the UK I took one of my old employers to court, won and got substantial compensation over a non-compete in my contract that tried to lock me out of my industry for one year.

I think they want Advent to see if they at least won't hate each other, because imagine you find a good set of girls, but 2 of them will refuse to collab with each other, and probably talk shit on stream and twitter. They also probably give them time to get used to calling themselves their character's name like how actors do.

My narrative is that they let them go but in return they need to voice the GGN sequel, as their Hololive persona

There is a reason why Met was such a big deal. Tsuna, Luna just name them they all take a 6 month break.
For you anecdote, sure maybe, most likely what you signed doesn't hold up on court but you also need cash while some "big" company tries to dry you out. Bora definitely didn't want to try that way.
