A lot of them seem to have liked America even before V-Tubing, but my impression was Japan isn't the largest fan of America. None the less you see them talking about wanting to go to NYC, see them wearing American flag glasses, wearing American flag clothing -- I don't quite get it.
I get Japanese Made English. That it's cool and trendy to wear things from overseas. But doesn't that imply they like America in the first place?

None the less this wasn't always the case, at least not as much so. When you look at demographic trends the country is far less white than it used to be.
America's diversity used to be more about 'white' diversity. Things like Irishmen, Italians, Englishmen, Germans, etc, all living in one nation.

America has been transitioning to a more broad diversity, beyond just Europeans. There's always been immigrants from Asia et all but it's been mostly Europeans for most of the country's history.

Either way the point is the same, exposure to different cultures and peoples as well as a resulting understanding of what is and isn't. A teenager can often tell the difference between Japanese and Chinese

For good reason. Both countries got picked up and 'saved' by America.
Europe got saved too but not as much and they believed themselves deserving of their stimulus from American's.

Japanese, on the other hand, were convinced they were at total war with America and would reap the consequences of losing such a war -- mass rape, pillaging, genocide, etc. When the troops landed and just idled by the Japanese were really surprised and, in many cases, relieved. They were fully aware, after all the shit which happened in China, that occupiers could rape and pillage. That Americans didn't left the impression of actions speaking louder than words, American's surprisingly following their claims of being a democracy seeking to protect itself and stop Japan's imperial ambitions.
Korea's similar, they know Americans fought and died so that they don't have to live on the other side of the border. Living next to North Korea is a constant redpill.

I don't know how conscious the understanding is, but Japan dominates the world due to U.S subsidies after WW2. Whether they agree with everything America does or believes is one thing, but I think they know all too well America is an anomaly in foreign relations, one who has failed to manifest their worst fears born of xenophobia and isolation; the foreign invaders came and left them a massive boon while respecting them greatly.

No. It's the effect of being deathly scared the Americans are coming to rape your mothers, kill your fathers, eat your babies, and genocide Japanese culture, only to find out these people you have been at total war with are sitting by just drinking beer at pubs while guarding your country from soviets.
They had some of the worst expectations possible, partially because they knew how Japan waged war, and all of those expectations never materialized. I think you could say they thought they received extreme mercy. Ever since they were shown the West would walk the talk they changed their tune -- it's one thing to claim to be crusading for democracy and human rights in a defensive war, another to actually fulfill such claims.

Also Burgerland is only a shithole in some aspects, and in specific places. People are nice over all.

I don't know if you're talking only about a modern perspective, but historically America and Japan have been "great friends" because Japan expected to be fucked up after accepting the terms of "unconditional surrender" in the Potsdam Declaration.
Instead the U.S. actually helped them rebuild and launch their new deal-type "economic miracle" and fucked them up less than a typical occupying force would before leaving. They seem reasonable until you factor in how overpriced our healthcare is. I pay almost as much a month for healthcare as I have taken out of my paycheck for taxes. Then if you want to live in an nice neighborhood free of third worlders you got to pay an exorbitant HoA fee. If you have kids, then you got to pay an arm and a leg for them to get a decent education as our public school system is a complete disgrace.

>A lot of them seem to have liked America even before V-Tubing, but my impression was Japan isn't the largest fan of America. None the less you see them talking about wanting to go to NYC, see them wearing American flag glasses, wearing American flag clothing -- I don't quite get it.
Maybe stop listening to the retarded shit ESLs and unemployed wapanese retards say on /jp/. NYC has a sizable Japanese population, and it's a tourist attraction. It has a Kinokuniya and a bookoff, that should at least let you know they have enough Japanese customers on top of whatever locals swing by.
