I have friends from across the whole political spectrum, and we can hang out together and get along well on the vast majority of things. If we start talking about how to solve poverty or our view of the police or stuff like that we'll start to disagree, but we share some kind of ideological core. Distrust of authority, high decoupling, specific interests, having a hard time meeting people with which we get along.
If you took a group of people of the same size, with the same distribution of ideological opinions, but that aren't like us, and mixed the two groups, the groups would split again along the "normie/non-normie" axis, and not along the left/right axis

But to take another example than politics, if you take 4 people, two hololive fans, two nijisanji fans, and one of each spends the majority of his time on 4chan, and the other on another website, the two 4chan people and the two other website people will feel closer than the two hololive and the two nijisanji people. And if you don't realize that there is this fundamental difference, it makes things even worse because you won't understand why you can't get along with another hololive fan, which will alienate you even more.
