Do I like personally looking at them and do I personally think their design is cool or cute. If the answer is no it isn’t a good design. Hope this helps!

I dont know, but anything too fucking busy is bad for me. Keep it simple numbnuts, if there's 50 things to look at when it's just their face on the screen that is bad

Just like any other design.
Memorability and not being overdesigned.
This shit is an example of an awful, too busy design, this shit would fit a generic chinese gacha better.

Barring terrible deviantart-tier and western 'anime inspired' design; the biggest indicator seems to be whether they have a large fanbase or not, as evidenced by 'Good Vtuber Designs' thread

good designs are easy to draw and also recognizable. So basically 0 vtubers

You can tell someone lacks personality and appeal by how much of their tits they show off and how many coombait clips they have. Ironically, appealing too much to a cunny design can also sometimes indicate they're trying too hard to be cute horny lolis.

Simple is the general rule, but I think there are exceptions especially when it comes to alternative outfits. The fallen angel Kanata design is fairly busy, but I think it looks great and I think most people agree

oversaturation of details definitely makes a design less likeable

even with outfits this applies, look at how good the latest ina outfit is

Biggest failure I see on low-end models is a lack of consideration for the job itself.
By which I mean bad posing, too much shit on the sides, arms out too wide, etc...
Easiest example is Laplus's horns being a constant pain in the ass, Gura never using Bloob because he's too fucking fat, or that niji homo whose arm was so broken they had to mirror him and shove him on the edge of the screen to fit him during collabs.

Second only to that is whores who don't understand subtlety. In most cases you can make a design sexier by ADDING clothing, and near naked models are just boring because there's nothing unique about them. That's why somehow despite having dozens of one piece swimsuit ban bait coomchuubas we don't have even ONE silhouetted semi sheer white dress vtuber, who could be just as slutty while also being completely covered, all without needing a billion toggles or layers.

For a good example look at Ina. She's got all those tentacles and shit but she can TURN THEM OFF, and somehow while being 90% naked there's just enough coverage that you can watch her on stream and not immediately think she's a street walker.
