Hello /asp! I'm hoping to start streaming in the next month or so, with the goal of moving on to vtubing.

My model will not have big badonkas or be/act lewd as that's not really my thing. The character I'm working on will be heavily influenced by her kayfabe, but will probably need a little bit of (seiso) GFE to make it all work, if that's even possible. Does anyone have recommendations of female indie vtubers that might have similar characteristics that I could watch to see what works?

I don't normally watch indies, apart from EngeliHeart or Limealicious on Twitch. They're probably considered more on the normie streamer side of the scene, so I don't even know who to start with.

Any other suggestions that you feel might be helpful would also be appreciated, thank you!

You can make serviceable 3d models with just the vroid studio, even if you don't know how to draw/model at all. Works fine if you want to get the taste of it. Paying for a model right off the bat is risky.
Investing into a decent ($100-150) mic is a good idea though. Janky audio set up is a much bigger turnoff than a derpy model, and good hardware can be sold for almost the purchase price.

I don't know a definitive formula of a successful channel. It'd be a ridiculous claim, and I'd be rich as fuck if it was true. But some things are obvious.
- Niche stuff is niche. A gachage is niche. Not many people play gachage in the West, even less people are invested enough to also watch related content.
- Quality by itself doesn't translate into views. I just finished watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVt_YW6t08s and this whole channel is a good example. It hosts interviews (or rather talk shows) with legendary game developers, shot by professionals - great production, cozy atmosphere, relaxed but competent pacing, English subtitles. The numbers are laughable for this kind of content. How so? Probably because they don't advertise it at all. Algorithm can carry your channel in theory, but in practice it only really works when you're already big but haven't grasped the entirety of your audience yet.
A 1view doing regular streams and hoping that algorithm-sama will do all the job automatically will very likely stay a 1view even if he's good. Musicians know this very very well — they literally teach you this at Berkley.

Ive streamed for a year and left my viewercount up the entire time. Its actually incredibly helpful sometimes. You can often identify when big drops to your viewership happen and can learn about what not to do to avoid it happening in the future. It can also help you to properly identify when you are doing well as a streamer, sometimes you have horrible chat interaction and yet a good number of people are watching. Just because people aren't interacting in chat doesn't mean you are streaming badly. I really cant imagine not streaming with the viewercount up.

Lore is the basis for your character. If you aren't playing a character, there's no point in having an avatar. Lore doesn't have to be elaborate, and your viewers don't need to be well versed in it, but if you constantly break your character to talk about stuff, you might as well just be a flesh streamer.
One of the challenges is exactly that - come up with lore that is easy to get for new viewers. That's why the early Hololive lore, for example, is so good. Korone was initially just a dog in a bakery, and then she gradually added yokai stuff, which works for jokes, is known to the regulars, and makes her character more deep and interesting. Same with the idol corp girls - they all have simple premises that could be told in a single sentence, and the girls stick to it and reference it.
