Another tip that I forgot to mention that may help is that I try to keep my content varied. This is just intuition on my part but I think reaching far and wide is good, without going too niche. You can do will in a niche or one particular game/fanbase but I've heard stories of someone who is big in, let's say Path of Exile as a random example off the top of my head. Their general fanbase won't be very interested in watching something new if that's all they've done before, so they probably won't retain a lot of those fans when branching out. I've had quite a few people come check me out just because of the game I'm playing who have ended up sticking around and even showing up for my other streams. My last advice I can think of off the top of my head is to make good usage of tags in your streams, it's not a ton but I've had about 10 or so people click on me who would've otherwise probably had no idea I existed without using them, the more specific you can make your tags, the better I'm finding. Generic console or genre tags have been performing super poorly, possibly due to overuse, possibly due to people not searching them, my more specific ones have been exploding in impressions comparatively.
I apologize if this is a lot of words to tell you stuff you already know, but a lot of this has been a learning process for me as well and I want to help in any way if I can!

I've been streaming (on Twitch) on and off for a year now and while I do enjoy it, I haven't really taken it seriously. I'm consistently watched by my 2-3 streaming friends that I made along the way but I still haven't reached the average viewers count necessary to reach affiliate. Given I have a tight schedule because of work, I can't really stream long hours, so I have been thinking about partially moving onto YT, where it seems like one can get away with shorter 1-2 hours without worrying too much about requisites while also having an easier time sorting through shorter videos and snipping out shorts to publish on my channel.

Also, right now my content has mostly consisted of cracking open a cold one and autistically rambling about game design, cars, guns or miniatures while playing vidya, but I want to try something a little more structured. I've tried a couple of 3d modelling and music production streams but those have consistently been my least watched.

Didn't think that at all from what I saw during the charity stream yesterday.

I decided to look at moots that debuted around the same time as me and tried to analyze what went right/any distinguishing facts about them, both positive and negative.
I'll be talking about the 3 of my case studies:
>Case 1: Trans female, 300 ccv. Average model. Very passable voice, no kayfabe. A good balance between niche and fotm games, decent performance at most of them. Full time streaming from the get-go.
>Case 2: Male, 90 ccv. Average model. Mostly niche games, good performance at them. Very dramatic kayfabe in solo streams that is completely thrown out of the window during collabs. Streams sometimes.
>Case 3: Female, 60 ccv. Nice voice when intentional, mostly during kayfabe bits. Good quality model. All streams are collabs with people of similar ccv. Stagnated a while ago but seems to have a very dedicated fanbase. Barely streams.

I compared a few more cases but these are just examples of different ccv brackets. None of these people have any outstanding talent or had a lot of exposure (maybe case 3 since the model artist is fairly big) and I witnessed them grow steadily. Not their gender, not their invested money, not their marketing, but consistency seems to be the pillar while everything else were just helpful additives.

I'm feeling myself stalling out on things that I was doing to get myself in gear for streaming stuff, or doing content creation in general, really.

You're right in that the mood would be quite different, more in the vein of those dota streams from a decade ago, and that's what I want to work up to in streaming in general, English still takes up too much processing power. Shitty ESL, needs reps correction.

Switching between two languages is pretty hard as exercise. I tried to keep stream bilingual translating messages and my speech ru-en and en-ru. But it was a good experience, as language reps. I was inspired by some bilingual vtubers and decided to try. And at least for some people I not looked like an idiot. Because, obviously, a native speech is much better than my ESL attempts. So you can try do a bilingual stream.
My struggles:
Speed of thinking (sometimes you just literally loading between two languages or trying to find word that you know in both languages but "sorry, refresh page" at the moment when you trying to say something)
Keeping pace of stream. It literally takes more time and you can't really do a lot with this. So.. pace of stuff you're doing will be noticeably lower.
But a good side of this - experience. Now it feels little better, but first time... oooofff.
First attempts were really really awkward but with time it should be easier, I guess.

Yep, speed is the main issue. I'm at the point where I can think in EN from the ground up without the need for internal translation, but thinking up jokes and tangents on the fly still takes a while. Practice should help.

I 100% nier automata when it released (all enemies, fish, items, weapons, etc) by myself off stream, I did not stream the game once.
It was a game I bought for myself, and I wasn't going to ruin it for myself by putting the atmosphere and pressure of streaming with it.

Part of me regrets not showing people my genuine love and appreciation for the game, but like I said, it was for me.
Games are meant to be fun, and I feel cutting streaming and the internet out of it reminds you of why you enjoy them so much that you want to share them with others to begin with.

Everyone is trying to be positive all the time, but I just wanna be there for them when they are at their lowest and keep them company. Because I've been constantly chasing after people who are positive and can always be happy on stream or otherwise and it's just tiring. I want to be relateable, but over the course of my streaming career I realized i'm kinda alone with this. The people that have watched me just find it off-putting that someone is that depressed. I suppose I learned something. There are probably people like me, but without being a popular streamer I would never reach them. I haven't given up on streaming yet, but I'm terrified that one day I'll wake up and then it's over. It's a difficult time for me.

All right, here goes a blunt translation of what I'm hearing so far. You're independent, financially, mentally and in terms of your own life's direction. You're independent to a degree where you keep people at a distance in order to keep your own thoughts clear of outside influence. You're determined enough to consciously set your own goals but not persistent enough to keep working on them until you achieve the results you want.
The problem I see is twofold. The lack of persistence is one, and I don't have an answer to it, it's my own struggle as well. Sometimes you just have to sit your ass down and keep it seated.
The other part of it is just how far away and vague your goal is. You want to make it, but what do you have to do to get there? What does it mean to make it? Medium 2views? 3view? You're saying you want to help people out and know you've helped, but what if they don't want to share their personal life and the effect you've had on them? What you're really looking for is their approval, a confirmation that you've done something good in the world, that you've changed a life for the better. The problem with that is, a lot of people would rather treasure that magical moment you gave them and look back on it as something of their own, something intimate and important. Doing good deeds is more often than not a thankless job, and you have to have the self-esteem to be able to understand what good you've done on your own.
Even then, listen to the streamers who've made it farther than any of us ever will. They call themselves trash of the world, scumbags etc in their honest moments. They don't feel they've done much either, and that's how your perception of ideal self will always work. It's never enough, you need to be better, to do more. It never stops, and it will never be enough. However, your drive towards perfection is what makes you better and what causes you to affect other people's lives and let them draw inspiration from you.
After all, how often have you been inspired by someone who tried to please you? How often have you been inspired by people who pursued their own ends with admirable energy? Paradoxically enough, in order to be that altruistic, you have to focus on a selfish goal.

Because it's a two way deal, you can't make pleasing people or "be there when they're down" as your goal if it doesn't bring a sense of pleasure for yourself, that sets you up for a life of a doormat. For example, Mentors find pleasure in coaching their juniors because it makes them happy to see people achieving greater heights.
Idols are another prime example for this, they want to be desired and loved. That greed fuels them to bare their hearts and bust their asses under the limelight. In turn, they feel genuine happiness in entertaining and making other people happy because they live for that limelight. Once they feel accepted by their fans and feel desired, they strive to improve themselves and perform even better. It's a self perpetuating cycle, just look at Kiara and Astel.

This is how you "stream for yourself". There's a huge difference between "I want to make people happy" and "I want to make people happy because it makes me happy to see them happy". The latter would motivate you to do your own marketing and makes you want to improve yourself. Trust me, your personality will change as you act on your goals

Oh, but it is. I used to be like that too, for something like a decade or so, then the army and just generally being tired of giving a fuck changed it. It's easy enough to keep sinking deeper into depression, but it takes a little willpower and a task simple enough that you can complete it to start building that confidence back up.
You start small and you work your way up. Specific steps may vary, but here's what can work for a start. Clean your room, the mess is fucking with your mood. Start running, extra lung capacity never hurt voice-centric endeavours. Make a healthy sleep schedule and force yourself to stick with it, your brain functions better that way. Go through a vod and pick out entertaining moments. Watch a streamer you like, note how their stream is structured, what sort of content they push at what point, how long it lasts, which exact assets they needed to make it happen, take notes. Make up a list of tasks broken down to as trivial of a level as possible that you need to complete to improve your stream. Complete those small tasks one by one to get a shot of self-esteem and an understanding that you're making progress. Hell, here's my current list. Everything on it is under my control, and nothing's /#/ related, since numbers are heavily luck based in the end.
This is how humans are wired. You're not going to feel any more worth it without proving to yourself that you're good enough to complete something, and from there on extra self-esteem will make it a tiny bit easier to do the next thing. It's a long and tedious process.
