I know Magni has been flattered a lot after his 1.5 but it's honestly deserved. I keep thinking back to one of his Fortnite rantings where he said something along the lines that he likes to help others where he can but he can't get the same type of help from other people. NTA but that sounds like you might be projecting some life experiences a bit further than what he actually said. He pretty much just said he felt like he put way more effort into helping them out but when he needed help they didn't support him the way he wanted and he felt hurt and gave up on them. I didn't get any entitlement/ulterior motive vibes. We don't know the whole story, like, it's possible it could've happened, but I wouldn't assume that happened based on what he said.
It seemed more to me like he needed friends who were more on his level of investment. His friends might not even be outright bad people, but just like relationships where one person wants sex a lot more than the other, it's better to find people who are on the same wavelength so you aren't frustrated all the time.
That said, I've definitely noticed sometimes one person will give help/gifts/advice/etc. that wasn't actually wanted or needed by the other person, so the recipient is like "oh cool thanks?" and the gifter gets resentful it wasn't appreciated or reciprocated...but in that case it's kind of on the gifter since it wasn't wanted in the first place. (I've been on both sides of this equation. It happens sometimes.)
