The very first iteration of MB was a janky ass game that took years to become somewhat good. The comparison was made to say there is no need to rush for IS.

A lot. Just like IS, DNF is a kusoge. Except it was so poorly handled by the devs it that the playerbase plummeted into oblivion within a few month, even if the game is still receiving support. As you can see in picrel, IS is (for now) following a very similar trajectory that DNF had.

There are a lot of factors in the equations. For strarter the fact that the fgc are hype mongrels that hop from new release to new release without any loyalty to one game. Add to that the fact there is more fighting games than ever since the golden arcade era if your game doesn't have: a strong licence, insanely fun gameplay, perfect management by the devs, the game will not have much staying power. The best bet for IS is to try to gather a small community of 250ish people and try to work up from there.

It's a kusoge so causuals are easily getting crushed without being to do anything, so they all left. The fgc complained that the game didn't have enough content and that the DNF devs didn't undestand what should be fixed, so they left too.

If I was gonna do it, I'd say nerf Aki, Botan, Sora. Aki I don't even know where to begin because she needs quite a bit. Botan, mainly just make her scaling not retarded good compared to the rest of the cast and make her cart actually punishable. Sora is a case where I don't know where to start either but she is some bullshit. Suisei is in a weird spot where she does do pretty well and might need nerfs but I'm not entirely sure. The only thing I think is kinda dumb about her is the fact that some of her moves have no landing recovery so that should probably be changed.

I'm not comfortable with buffing in the case of this game mainly because most characters in this game are already generally strong. Like look at Korone, she's considered one of the weakest characters. But there's not anything to buff. Her frame data is mostly fine, almost everything makes sense. Any more buffs and there's a chance she becomes degenerate to fight against. In my case, my experience is Coco. In her case, it's armor that needs a buff because armor functions poorly in the situations she needs to use it. But beyond that, it's hard to buff anything of hers without her going into complete degenerate territory where she becomes less and less fun to fight.

That's why I would say that nerfing is justified in this case. They're designed in a way that doesn't make sense. Botan randomly has better damage scaling for her combos than anyone else in the cast for no reason, and randomly has invincibility during cart recovery so you sometimes get punished for trying to punish it. There's no logical explanation for it and it doesn't make the game more fun, it's just annoying. Aki is just blatantly overtuned, and buffing everyone to be on her level would probably just make the game even more degenerate. It's more of a difference in design preference, but generally the weaker characters feel like they're better designed, if that makes sense.
