Well damn, this was a pretty great start. I really appreciate the work you've put into your world building, it's engaging but also not too overwhelming. Dialouge flows well as well. One thing I personally really like is that while the MC is a vet, he's not the typical emotionless husk, he actually reacts to the people and enviroment around him.
