I think I now know why the graduation hurt me so unexpectedly. Vtubers as a whole are escapism. They are supposed to be cute 2d girls living in a different world that I get to watch. They make me forget about how shit life really is. But Coco's graduation made everyone sad. The 2d world no longer seems idyllic. Irrepairable damage can be done to it. The cracks on the illusion are showing and are no longer possible to ignore. Vtubers no longer seem like a happy world. I'm not sure I'll be able to continue watching any of them with the spell broken.
The only question remaining is how do I cope?

Coco announced her graduation today. Final stream on July 1st. She said it's because of many reasons she can't talk about. Supposedly she wanted to leave. A few holos tried to talk to her and convince her to stay apparently, but she's resolved to leave.

Well, the majority of people would benefit from taking some time to take care of their mental health. Yet the most of them get by without it.
It's completely normal and OK to feel sad about and hurt by this. Obviously to a limit.
People get sad because of stuff that doesn't directly affect them personally all the time.

That's just you tho, I watch them to spend my time whenever I'm bored with gaming or reading.

If you live in a developed country, try to go to a mental clinic, get some help and keep in touch with your beloved one(s). If it's impossible to do that, accept it that the world is cruel, face it even if it makes you a miserable person. Have something for you to hold dear in your life, whether it's a family, SO, hopes and dreams, or anything as long as it works and your life will keep moving forward.

Frankly I see it from a perspective of "your favorite character in X series/movie just died". Sure the actor will still be around (unless your favorite character was Brian O'Conner lmao), but it still stings if you know the character isn't coming back (as in, it's not a "death is cheap" story).
Like, when Rikishi Tooru died in Ashita no Joe, there is a reason people had funerals in real life... his character was special and being a boxing series the guy was fucking dead. And I think Coco the dragon is similar to that.

This. There is her roommate's channel, but even if she started as a vtuber again it just wouldn't be the same. She would no longer be able to talk to or about her genmates or senpai, and they will also change with her leave. Of course I still wish her roommate the best, and will probably follow her for a while to see what is she up to, but it just isn't the same.

It's the same phenomenon for me honestly, though not to the degree that I'm gonna drop everything. There was something about Hololive that made it feel special relative to indies and other agencies, like a big family in fairy tale land where everyone supported each other and nothing irreparably bad ever happened as opposed to just another company.

It just feels kind of empty now, like the same as any other youtube swill or content creators I follow. I'm still interested in my oshi and a few others, but the "magic" that caused me to get so emotionally invested, spending loads of time binging Hololive content and keeping up to date with all the major happenings is gone. I think my time watching chuubas will massively decrease going forward, clips and all.

It's more than just the character of Kiryu Coco being gone.
We know there's a person behind Coco. Someone who had to deal with a torrent of hate from the scum of the earth. Someone who was thrown under the bus by the people who were supposed to be looking out for her.
Someone who was creatively stifled and handicapped by either their intentional neglect, incompetence or active sabotage.
And we know how the departure of her character will affect her colleagues and close friends (yes they are friends).
This isn't just fiction, even if none of us are personally involved.

I think the thing that will hurt everyone is not that she graduated--but why. If she had had no issues and she just decided to of her own accord that would be fine. But everyone knows the real reason this happened.
So there's two emotions: for those who liked Coco, anger and resentment. And for the antis, satisfaction and glee. I'm actually surprised there hasn't been any major NTR threads yet, that's basically what this is. The chinks NTR'd the entire world.

You don't.
You realize that the reality is that politics is always going to be interested in you no matter how little you care about politics. The idea that this was escapism from the pointless bickering of the left, the right, the pozzed, the nazis, the communists, the alt-right, the far left, etc. etc. etc. was always just that: An illusion.
Sooner or later this board is going to look just like /v/ where almost any video game or vtuber can and will be plotted along a political compass to argue about politics via proxy. Liking or hating one vtuber or another will soon be a statement on what kind of politics you support, not who you like to watch to get away from the tangles of the world.

They absolutely were the main reason. Coco even admitted as much in the past--the rules got more strict, and they were preventing her from doing anything she wanted to do. And why did the rules get more strict after what happened? And why is she leaving now? You have to be trying really hard to cover Cover's ass to not see between the lines on that one.
I find the antis disgusting, but you have to hand it to them, they got a legitimate victory, and they deprived everyone else of their fun and enjoyment. That's literally what they live for, find it pathetic as I do, they still won.

>> No.4879802

>>4879410
>And why did the rules get more strict after what happened? And why is she leaving now?
meh, the chink spam has been getting smaller and smaller, especially with the youtube autoban or whatever did they use to get rid of them
But some of the ideas Coco had were simply incompatible with Hololive, and thus they were restricting her creativity. Asacoco getting prohibited way back then is one of such examples.
And with Mio saying how Coco has firmly made up her mind and so on, I'm assuming she just wants more creative freedom to do what she wants.
As for the chink spam, I think it's even less likely that was the main reason, because they already tried spamming on her roommate channel, so it really doesn't matter to them whether she continued as Coco or someone else.

>> No.4880108

>>4879410
It's nothing but some speculations and trying to connect points. You could believe in this narrative or not. I prefer not if I don't have proofs. Worrying about something I can't control is a waste of time.
And blaming Cover has no point anyway. Without it we wouldn't have these talents at all, at least in their current form.

>> No.4880707

>>4879802
It's not about the spam, that's just a result of the underlying dynamic. It doesn't matter. What matters is Hololive has Chinese investors and presumedly wants to get back into the Chinese market at some point--or at the very least reset relations to the point some of that Chinese money flows to existing Hololive talents, like Aqua.

The wound is still fresh, so maybe I'll change my mind, but it's going to be hard to watch her content for the rest of the month. It's like we're watching her march to her death, how are we supposed to laugh and enjoy collabs? I almost wish she would have just announced it the day before she left, but people at least have time to prepare tributes for her. I also can't see every Holo keeping it together while they're collabing with her. Every time she speaks, or makes a joke someone might just burst into tears. And they're online, so it's not like she can provide any comfort to most of them, like Mori did for Kiara that time.

yeah, i don't possess the dissociative ability to pull stuff like this off. not really a fan of phrases along the lines of "don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened" either, because i'm generally future-focused. a funny or happy memory is nice to have, but ruminating over something the likes of which is never going to happen again honestly just makes me feel worse, as do big send-off or memorial ceremonies. i'd rather just avoid it all and be a little out of the loop when people talk about her going forward than intentionally traumatize myself by cementing it all in my mind as an important memory

Am I the only one who's optimistic about this? She's clearly got a knack for business, and if even half the stuff I hear about her work on EN is true it sounds like she basically set up the entire division. Considering that, and the fact that she was interested in working the business side of Hololive, I think she wants to start her own vtuber company. If she chooses to work at Covers, she'll either remain a mismanaged vtuber, or she'll have to navigate the byzantine realm of Japanese corporates politics with the considerable disadvantage of being a gaijin, all for no real benefit. If she founds her own company though, she can get to work immediately in a more western-styled work environment. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if she has like 50 different candidates for vtubers the got vetoed by YAGOO ready to go. The only reason she has to not start her own company is the prospect of burning bridges with Covers, since I can't imagine a Japanese corporation of that size ever tolerating collabs with a former employee. Too much pride, and all that.
