Who would you watch if you were able to understand Japanese ?
If you already learned Japanese are you satisfied with Hololive compared to the EN branch ?

I watch Koyori and Pekora when they are live and it's great. I think Marine should've been a caster but watching the Puyoteto tournament live was top kino.

I love Hololive and I see the JP branch in a more favorable light than the EN branch. I did JP reps for many reasons but one of the main reasons was to watch JP vtuber who embrace being idols. Some EN members want to be idols but I feel like they aren't putting their life and soul into it. This is why I primarily watch JP hags like Lui and Marine.

Not in Hololive but I would watch Salome.
Nips swear up and down that she's comedy gold if you understand nip. I want to see if this is truly correct.
If we restrict it to just Hololive though, I'd watch Polka.

I understand Japanese. I tried to like HoloMyth when they debuted but never got into it and haven't bothered with HoloEN since then.

>> No.47595272

>If you already learned Japanese are you satisfied with Hololive compared to the EN branch ?
Are you trying to assess whether understanding both languages evens the branches out? Just speaking for myself, I think the JPs really are superior overall and it's not just an illusion created by inability to understand what they're saying. The only EN I watch these days is Fauna and sometimes Kiara, while on JP I watch Korone, Okayu, Miko, Nene, Mel, Koyori and Marine (I find Marine pretty hard to understand a lot of the time though).

I can't imagine watching hololive, I might die from cringe and boredom.

Pekora Okayu Korone Kanata Miko Marine and maybe Chloe. I'd try most of them a few times as well.

Sometimes I lament not trying to learn Japanese when I was 23 and could've brute forced some of it. Now I sit here at 31 with regrets and a brain past its ability to learn second languages.

Stupid excuses.
I took the JLPT N1 exam last year and half the exam takers were clearly well past 30.

>inb4 it will be years before I get to use it
No. It'll be practical even if you're like 6 months in.
Remember that 80% of speech is composed by the 1000 most frequently used words.
Do 10 words a day and you can hit 1000 in 100 days. Even for a geezer like you that time commitment shouldn't be too hard.

I already know japanese and only watch holo jp. Holo EN is a travesty in any capacity. What you would expect from them is “hololive jp but in english” but in reality the culture is way too different for that to happen. The average EN is as good as the worst of JP.
I genuinely feel bad for people who can’t experience the real thing because of the language barrier. The way the JP branch care about their fans and try to give back is heart-warming and honestly it made me a better person. They are proof not everything is ironic and that you people can be grateful to people who care for them.

I think my experience with JP would be the same with EN if I were able to speak Jap
First, I wouldn't be visiting this place; I'd be on 2ch and other Japanese websites containing rrats, yabs, and all sorts of bullshit that would ruin my experience with the JP talents
Secondly, I'd be able to interpret not only what they say, but how they say it. Then I'd see Jap schizos be like 'Oh she sounds tired today' or 'Is she being sarcastic'. Fuck that noise, man.
tl;dr, I'd rather watch JP chuubas while not knowing a lick of Jap. Speaking the language would be more of a curse than a blessing

Yeah, I'll admit it'd be great to watch them without subtitles and such. I'm teaching myself Jap at the moment, actually. But it came to me that once I understood their language, I'd be exposed to all the baggage that's associated with it too. So I'm kind of on the fence as to whether or not I should continue.
It's like admiring Mt. Fuji from afar, but once you get too close, you see all the garbage at the foot of the mountain.
>>47597567
Dunno about that, pal. Though I'll have to say I don't see that many Guraseethe threads anymore, so maybe that's becoming more true by the day

>> No.47597679

>>47594012
I don't speak japanese but with more than 20 years of watching anime I'm able to get the general idea of what they're speaking, especially with context included. I don't watch jps all that much but I've been watching them more and more lately. My favorite jp would probably be Luna, in fact she's the only one I consistently watch, very chill and cute streams that are easy to follow despite the baby voice. I only rarely watch the others when they're playing minecraft and only some of them like Kanatan, Mikochi and maybe Aqua and Pekora.

If you can already understand a bit of Japanese try learning some grammar and kana because that means your brain is already familiar with Japanese so it will be way easier (and will also give you a lot of satisfaction after learning what you always knew come from, anons who did their reps can understand that)

My oshi is Kiara, but I hardly watch her now after she went back to Austria since there is a 12h difference. I used to watch Gura a lot too (and was a member) until she stopped streaming, and Ame until I got bored. I've watched a couple of Fauna streams tok, they're nice.

I watched a couple of Vesper streams after debut, but I don't watch any Holostars EN anymore.

And also, one thing I used to do was that I had almost always something in Japanese playing in the background when I was doing something else. ASMR, anime episodes I've seen, audio dramas, and all kinds of stuff in general. Now you could do that just with vtubers.
