I think it's fair, Marine specifically used a tactic tailored to counter Suisei and the game is balanced so that Puyo has a significant advantage at their skill level. The fact the Marine beat Suisei (who has been known for years as being a master at Tetris) using fucking Puyo Puyo of all things is super impressive. Despite being inexperienced she grinded the objectively inferior style and made it out on top after a lot of hard work. She was the underdog who had such a huge disadvantage but won, anyone complaining about the outcome is retard who doesn't know how the game works. Doubly so since at the end of the day it was just a couple of matches between friends in a low stakes tournament that ultimately means nothing apart from giving them an opportunity to have fun together (while making a load of money).

Marine is definitely a good puyo player among the holos.
You can see that from the Maruyama episodes.
But again, it's not a big deal. It's just a casual tournament for fun. No reason to unironically seethe about it.

Man, I regularly feel like I'm in a different world than 99% of hololive fans. I watched the stream and was really impressed with Marine's skills. Sure she was a god at Puyo and that was really cool to watch, but every game was a 3-0 stomp aside from maybe 2 or 3 sets.

This is par for the course in a hololive tournament. 2-3 people actually practice and the other 30 participants just show up on game day and let fate decide.

The only example you really need for this is the MK tournaments. Every year half the players drive backwards while Sui-chan executes frame perfect blue shell dodges with ease.

It should also be mentioned that if people were telling Marine not to play then the Nyanners clone shouldn't have been allowed either because she insta-KO'd players, too. At that point get rid of FBK as well and then everyone else until the only people playing don't even know what Tetris/Puyo is. Then why even watch the stream?

Everyone knew Marine was the favorite by a mile and she was participating and they were all okay with it. You can't just ban the best player in a group, you do that and eventually there's no one left to actually play in the tournament. If Marine participating was a problem for the girls, they would've said something.
