Yes, it is easier to combine LoRA's when they're weighted lower. I use that trick with style or concept LoRA's if I'm trying to also use a character LoRA. Kronii at 0.5 still looks very difference from normal model so mission accomplished.

I was more just curious than really wanting to make a bunch of giant images myself, but since you were kind enough to make a guide, I gave it a shot. Basically all the same settings you had but with a batch size of 1, and it generated with no problems. It took slightly over 4 minutes so it definitely doesn't feel worthwhile to me, but it's nice to know I can actually do it without it just failing because of VRAM.
(yes I'm aware there are some messed up parts of this image I was just trying to test it)

That's the idea! It splits the image up into tiles and does them one or as many as you can at a time. I should've taken a screenshot when I tried it on the A100 GPU Colab with previews enabled it has 40 fucking GB VRAM. I set it to batch size 9 for shits and giggles, fully expecting it to fail. ~1 minute to do the whole thing.

Yeah, there's a trade off from going up to ~0.4 denoise vs like 0.3, especially if the source image wasn't perfect. When this goes up on pixiv in a bit, half the sweat on her will be missing. Photoshop sugoi. This is a benign example, biggest "fix" I end up doing is removing all the stray navels that ended up in armpits, under tits, in hips, etc. Record is 6, kek.

3. Could you recommend a good starting-point coomer model to practice prompting.

Hires fix quickly upscales your base image with the chosen upscaler and settings after generation. A lot of people use it to generate high resolution pictures with one click. Another way is to generate many lowres images and either upscale in the img2img tab or regenerate with the same seed but with highres fix on once you find a good base generation. If you're having trouble with img2img upscaling, your settings are probably wrong.
I assume everything is in 512x512. Generating in 512x768 works without major issues on most models though. Not something to worry that much about, you should be generating small and upscaling anyway.
And for models, it's so much up to personal taste that you should just ask someone who posted a picture you like. Most models have no trouble generating smut.

If you really want to add image quality & detail, you want one of the latent upscaler options in highres fix. I don't know all the technical details but I think it's more like upscaling the process rather than upscaling the result, which gives it more space to add in details that it didn't have enough pixels for at the smaller resolution. Lace/frilly clothing is a really good example of this. Unfortunately this extra freedom often results in it destroying fingers and hands worse than other types of upscaling so there's a bit of tradeoff

Kind of sort of - but it's really not that much more than an img2img upscale of your image with the same prompt. If you aren't using one of the latent upscalers, I think it might actually be the same.

Assume 512x512. Most models don't have too much trouble straying from that for base gens - within reason.

I end up with blurry results when I try to 2x upscale unless I approach 0.6x denoising - at which point, yeah, the image can change fairly drastically, but sometimes not. I haven't played with latent in a while, but if I were to go back to using it, I'd probably stick to 1.5x-1.75x where I can get away with a bit lower denoising strength or get away with going higher and not having the image get weird as fuck and then SD Upscale afterwards.

The I if I'm good with that I make like 40. Then I sift though them for good ones and upscale them in a batch with the same prompt at 0.55 denoising.

With the hires fix option in the main generate tab, it uses the same seed + prompt, so the overall composition tends to stay mostly the same when you upscale there. Everyone's workflow is a little different but I like to generate a bunch of images at my smaller res (often but not always 512x768) and then upscale the ones that I like the general appearance of. Experiment some and find settings you like, referencing catbox links other people post is good for this too since you can see their settings.

I didn't take it that way at all, and I used to say the same myself
Now try it at 2x with 4x-AnimeSharp instead of lollypop, 0.5 denoising, keep Latent at 0.6. You might see what I mean, or not, I'm wrong fairly often. I don't think I use lollypop anymore outside of SD Upscale when I think it might look nicer.

At that point, the upscaler hardly matters - the image was getting denoised so much that the nearest neighbor upscale looked the same as the fancy ESRGAN one.

2. What is the resizing method on the Extras tab and why does it use 2 upscalers?
3. Which of all of these is the SD upscale that is mentioned frequently?

"Just resize (latent upscale)" = Latent*** except img2img has to decode the image again, hi-res fix can skip that since it still has an image in latent space...I've no idea what "Just resize" uses actually.

Because hi-res fix copies the rest of your gen settings while it upscales. Think of it like an img2img where you can pick the upscaler it uses. It's why you still have to set a denoising strength and number of steps in hi-res fix.

That doesn't do any processing using your model/checkpoint at all. The other two do.

Also, based on the testing I have done, any further model testing is going to be done based on merges similar to the lower model. Overall, I have had less deep fry and more accurate recreation of chuubas compared to the LoRA merge.

A microscopic difference between hiresfix and SD upscale that is of no importance to you:
These descriptions ignore latent space transformation because tiny human brains don't understand latent. Understand when I say pixel and describe sizes that this is not entirely accurate because latent magic.

After you generate your image hiresfix will take the same seed and generate a noise map *at full size* this means a 512*768 with 2x will generate a 1024*1536 single noise map. Hires then takes the original image and inserts it's pixels into that noise map with 3 noise pixels next to every image pixel. different latents use bicubic or other upscalers to generate the noise map from your seed and the image itself. Hires then performs a denoise on that to get your image.
SD makes multiple individual noise maps at tile size. If you send to img2img with no changes those noise maps will be the size of your image. And they have the same seed. So those 4 noise maps all are identical to the map of your original image. Then SD fills those maps with a portion of your original image and denoises that, puts the mosaic back together, and gets an upscaled image.
The difference: SD upscale can get away with denoise of like 0.1 because the noise map is identical to the original image noise map. So SD can sometimes be super sharp and not cuck you like hires does. Otherwise you're not noticing a difference other than SD being slower. It's also possible to section SD so that you can pull latent couple bullshit and ensure certain areas have certain prompts. It's also possible to do other prompt nonsense with SD that hires won't do.
