As you climb ranks, wiping out early will cost you more rank points because the "entry fee" costs more.
You can net a few points if you kill/assist. These points are multiplied by your team's final position in the game. Therefore it's pretty dangerous to take early battles and risk wiping early.
It's even more dangerous at higher ranks because everyone knows this strategy, so they will look to be the 3rd party in fights to gain the upper hand.
If two teams are fighting, there's a good chance a 3rd party will hear it and rush in to clean them both up.
Fleeing from fights to survive until the last few circles eases the point loss, and your teammates will also lose less points if they decide to stay and spectate you. You also have the chance to pick off people who are in a similar situation, adding more to your points.
Finally, the game can't tell if you're ditching your teammates or helping them because there's no system to assign points that way. That means you won't be rewarded for fighting alongside your teammates to your demise, or punished for abandoning them.
Because of all the above, fleeing and hiding is a valid, but ungraceful strategy.

I can only speak of Aqua's attempt at it.
Aqua did much the same thing (ratting), and sometimes her rando teammates did the same if she and her other teammate died early.
There were some complaints in chat and on here that Aqua ratting TOO much and fleeing situations too soon where helping her teammates could've resulted in a team wipe, granting her team more points. She was mostly afraid of 3rd parties coming in and fucking shit up.
Later on in her grind she started being a little more aggressive, helping her teammates beat the other team if she felt confident that a 3rd party wasn't going to happen.
However if she noticed a 3rd party coming she'd try to ping her teammates to retreat and avoid being pincered by the team they're fighting and the 3rd party that just came.
Sometimes her rando team would pick up on this.
Other times, it would get ignored and Aqua's teammates would fall, causing Aqua to flee.
The worst result of this fleeing was that one game where her teammate chatted "fucking noob" to her, to which she replied "sry". it's not easy to discern what the best decision is even for a good player because there are too many variables in the game. sometimes trusting your teammates is the right decision, sometimes it isn't. but in the long run, i think the best strat is to play it safe and rat. so yeah, aqua and astel have the right idea

there are not nearly as much 3rd parties on world edge in comparison with kings canyon or olympus
its a good map to take fights on

The difference between shibuhal, gorilla, aqua and astel is pretty much pinging issue. Astel would only ping once or not pinging at all while the others would spam pings to tardwraggle their team.

I am an apex master rank player myself, i would probably be mad if someone just ditch during middle of fight without at least pinging.

Does a master rank player like me who watches aqua and other chuubas count? If she form a team, she probably reach master rank, solo has too much variables and depends on another playstyle. Aqua does have consistent aim and tilting issues though but her aim improve a lot during her master climb and she always has good movement. It's not like master rank players have no weakness, i probably lose to astel in a mid range spray battle. I would take a 1v1 mastiff duel against astel though since his mastiff duel movement is too easy to read, static at times and his mastiff shots are slower.
