Noctyx models were pretty weak but yeah I wonder if part of the core issue is if holoEN management somewhat appears to be blind/undeveloped in their top brass' tastes in 2D, like they have no feel for design theory and such and it's just pure dumb luck if the chuubas get good models or not. In Myth most of them were good except arguably Kiara's wacky outfit/hair colors overall didn't help, Council had Sana and then there was Irys. Then with the homos many of them look just lmao tier.

We literally just cope with their funky designs and adapt to them over time if we otherwise really like the chuuba, but I generally don't recall feeling this way about most holoJPs remotely as often, Gen 3 was about the last time even some of them looked kinda janky, and even Flare 1.0 is miles cuter than original Irys or Sana ever were. 4/5/6 were all good, Coco's fucking rigging fucked hers up however.

The commissioner is MORE important than the artist or concept. There is no artist, and no cool concept can save a design if the commissioner has bad taste.

'Hands-off' approach to commissions doesn't work either because, at the end of the day, the person paying for the design has to approve it.

A chuuba model is both the artist and the rigger's collective effort. COVER should've had a higher standard, but when the riggers are more or less the same people yet the end results are shit it's usually the artist's fault. It's probably why NijiEN used artists highly experienced in Live2D production instead of just picking popular artists from the market. Luxiem was just Oga's, Ollie's, and Izuru's artists (forgot about the last one).
Ironically, Tempus 2's artists are relative nobodies compared to Tempus 1's yet they still have better models. Tempus 1's mamas are big names kek

Shinri looks good, I would say everyone on tempiss2 looks good, tempiss one was mid af, magni has the most interesting design but looks like an alien wearing human skin, bluefag and furry dude both look generic as fuck, but at least furry dude has chains and a leather jacket so that's a plus, vesper is just Alucard, Alucard is good, stealing Alucards look isn't, all of them would be fixed with new clothes, except magni who need a 2.0 asap

When a company become big enough to the point they gain money from just breathing, they will give shit to the audience without hesitation because they know people will buy it. Think about most triple A games know days, most of them look ugly as fuck and full of bugs with only Elden Ring standing alone as an ACTUAL AAA game.
It's no wonder that smaller corpos and indies have better designs and rigging, because they NEED quality or will be eating bread crumbs next morning.

This guy is from Oga's artist. They picked the right artist. Luxiem in general was great from a design standpoint as a Niji wave, except maybe the purple guy who ironically also is from Oga's artist, but that can be fixed with a new outfit.
The next waves' designs' quality are debateable though.

Indies have better models nowadays too. The thing is, they don't need to be good. The brand carries, same as how Gura is still a piece of cardboard but it doesn't matter because it's Gura and she sells, she's a mascot even if she's a rhombus cardboard. Cover certainly never gave a fuck about the quality of the models even WAY before anything EN-related happened. I remember Coco had to push hard for her model rework as well which I believe she paid for herself. And we already know none of them are allowed to ask for costumes by themselves or any additional changes because then everyone would have tons of costumes and they don't want that because ???????????????????????????, fax machine company please understand.
