I'm not necessarily a Gura fan, and these points have probably been posted already, but here's my thoughts why. The main thing is that her YouTube algorithm spams her clips. There's nowhere to avoid Gura if you're browsing YouTube and are even slightly interested in the anime or vtuber medium. Once she started growing it was onwards from there as it doesn't stop, since normies or newer viewers realised that she has the most subs they automatically sub to her. They either become fans or turn into dead subs, but either way it makes her sub count rise and it's a constant snowball effect. So it's a mixture of natural growth and her channel/brand playing YouTube's game extremely well.

Couple that with her design, where she's appealable to kids, so she gets the Pekora effect where children will watch her because she's essentially a cute cartoon character who sings and plays games for them.

A reality where the local talents will no longer be considered as the flagship branch as having 3D models is the only boon they have over EN. Each one of EN's 3D debuts will break the internet much, much harder than any JP talents had. Eventually, EN will dominate JP in every metric, be it superchats, VOD views, subcount and whatnot since they appeal to an infinitely wider audience. Numberfagging will reach it's ultimate retardation. Cover seeing the numbers will further shift the focus towards EN more and more to pander to as many global audience as possible instead of strenghtening the domestic fanbase. It's gonna be another Sony situation where it's a Japan-based company leaning hard to westernization to maximize profit.
