Just want to pop in and say I'm new to Polka, I'm mostly an EN guy but something about Polka is making me want to learn Japanese and watch her.

I watched the video for Po for the first time today and this sounds so silly but for some reason it cheers me up. Something about the animation/expressiveness and silliness of it reminds of why I like life. That sounds retarded but does anyone know what I mean?

I've been watching Polka for over 2 years without understanding a lick of Japanese
She's very enjoyable to listen to despite the language barrier. Her voice is incredibly expressive and fun to listen to and her doing different voices and stuff is just a cherry on top

I may also be biased because I've listened to her so much at this point that simply hearing her voice sends dopamine running through my brain

Be warned however, from what I've heard that Polka is one of the most filtering when it comes to Japanese. Apparently the moment she starts to get a bit introspective, she'll start using pretty advanced Japanese, with lots of archaic words or secondary kanji meanings. Not exactly the most inspiring to try and learn Japanese unfortunately...

I think just that by the fact Polka has a supposedly high level of Japanese, it makes the task of learning Japanese to understand her a lot more daunting and monumental task to understand her fully. In comparison, I've heard that Luna's level of JP is almost actual baby talk, so getting to a point with JP reps where one would be able to understand a lot of her discourse would seem like a much more achievable task

It doesn't matter how long it would take to achieve true fluency or is it even possible at all, as long as you can get to understanding, say, 80% of what any of them say in reasonable amount of time. Polka noises are fairly common from the fennec, especially when frustrated (and yes, that includes the breathing, soundpostr rel). It's more taxing and makes less money. Streaming takes much less planning, require less production resources, and have more freedom on timing/length. Combine that with many fans preferring live streams because they can interact in chat with the vtuber, including superchats, and it's just the financially smarter option.
