I don't really go /here/ I just have been reading out of morbid curiosity since I got the interview offer. Wanted to get a feel for how the company was being perceived (spoiler alert: not very well) before committing.

I feel like vtuber agencies will eventually go the way of multi channel networks. There's all these agencies, but none of them really offer very much except for Hololive and Nijisanji.
On the surface, agencies sound great. They pay for your model, manage your content, provide networking, et cetera. But in practice, they don't actually offer that much. An individual person can manage their own content, network with other vtubers by themselves, and do all the things they need to do without being in an agency at all. Even when they are in an agency, the majority remain as 2views or 3views. The idea that an agency will boost people into having thousands of live concurrent viewers is antiquated.
Vtuber agencies are much like the old multi channel networks of the early 2000s - mid 2010s. Agencies owe their existence to vtubing being a novelty. Now that we're six years post-Kizuna Ai, vtubing as an "industry" itself is maturing. The novelty is gone. the technology is no longer groundbreaking. Being a vtuber used to be an instant guarantee of getting views because the concept of it was new. This has LONG since ceased.
Now just like multi channel networks collapsed, we're seeing vtuber agencies collapse as well. the golden age they prospered in is over.

I've been following a vtuber for about half a year now and have seen her go from 15 average viewers to roughly 30 right now. If you have a good personality and upload good content, then people will watch you and the channel will grow. This is regardless of whether you're in an agency or not. An agency will provide somewhat of a boost to CCV, but it ultimately depends on the individual talent to make good content.

It's all to a point. Amiya as an example capped out since she plays older games. A Goliath for a retro streamer on Twitch would be 1k viewers. Most other big ones fall under 20~100 viewers. Sometimes a niche is just that, a niche. You can be entertaining and pump out good content for that niche, but very few people care about it. Not only that but people have to discover you, and a good agency would try to advertise you in some sort of way. Which irks me about the Kawaii 3D debuts because I believe all advertisements for that event was done out of the girls pockets. On the other hand the Kickstarter and models were organized by management, but I didn't think they expected to meet their goal.

If an agency can jump start you to 40 viewers that is amazing compared to starting with zero and how much time to build anyone up. There are many people that grind out there that don't get results.

We are decades removed from a lot of those games. While people are willing to watch an AVGN video that's edited with him banging his head against a game, will people watch someone bang their head on an old game they never played for six hours? I did with LittleMixer when he was playing the final level of Super R-Type, but that isn't everyone's cup of tea. Not only that but retro inspired new releases don't get the attention that huge games have like Elden Ring. You heard a little about Shredders Revenge, but probably nothing about Final Vendetta, and Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider came out this month. There is very little new game hype when compared to Elden Ring or some other big release. There's no advertisements for these games, if you love retro games you probably already know about them so they rely on that, and that audience is small. Check out the LoL tab versus the retro tab. 5k people with the top stream pulling in 500 viewers while LoL has 255k viewers and there are multiple 5k viewer streams. Elden Ring is a single game and not a category and beats out retro.
