There's an entire popular anime/media franchise called Hypnosis Mic which is about battle rapping and there's highly organized battle rapping contests with big name sponsors like JOYSOUND. As for the nodding, at least in the context of using Japanese, it's a cultural thing. The Japanese nod a lot as a sort of 'soft bow' thing, it's a form of respectful acknowledgement. When a Japanese person says hi to you they're likely to nod their head.
