You gotta understand that in the 90s, Japan really ruled the RPG scene with some absolutely phenomenal releases. Mother, FF, Chrono series, even early days Star Ocean, games like that. It was a great time to be an RPG fan but the west did not sit back and just accept the fate that they'll always be put on the backburner. The west, from the late 90s to present day have expanded so deep into each and every genre, and even in the RPG department have put out some fucking masterpieces of their time. Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age Origins, Fallout, Elder Scrolls; When you look at how the west constantly touched on their games and improved them over the years, you can understand why DQ ended up being perceived as pretty mediocre.

The series has not changed at all since the 90s. It's the same exact game, with the same items, same plot, same setting and same tropes. I mentioned this either here or on /hlgg/ a while back but you can play DQ5 and DQ11 and it wouldn't be any fucking different, except one game came out 30 years ago. That's how bad the series is with improvement.

The last time she mentioned Atlantis and minecraft that I've seen she was very hesitant to talk about it and it seemed like she didn't want to ever build it, saying stuff like "What's the point of building Atlantis anyways, people come to the server and go 'Wow.' and then they move on to the next thing."
