If you think about it, there aren't a whole lot of precedents for what we see with vtubing IPs. Pro wrestling is probably the closest thing, where a character is created for a wrestler, and if they jump ship to another company (which happened a lot back during the hey day of WWE/F vs WCW) they often had to ditch their old gimmick, but not always. But I bring this up because a character, with costume and a persona created by the writers, with the push a part of how well you perform, are all worthless if the wrestler sucks. Some gimmicks work on their own, but most don't work without in ring performance ability and mic charisma. The same is true for vtubing. The designs are cute and all, but the best fucking vtuber design doesn't mean shit unless the person behind it can entertain the audience. So who is really responsible for that character working out? The people who designed it or the person who performs? In that regard, who deserves the credit, and therefore the ownership, of that persona?

I wonder what'll happen as things go forward with these arguments. Can a vtuber who wants to quit HL be able to take their character with them? Or will Cover never allow that? Maybe they can buy it when they leave? Who knows.
