Based on the various statements floating around it seems that he already finished his work but Cover didn't want to release it as is and was asking him to make revisions. He wanted more money to make said revisions (he calls this unreasonable) and threw a fit when they didn't want to give him more money. Afterwards Cover just paid him out his fee (likely based on completion of the work including revisions) and shut down his manga project.
