I wouldn't say it's more important than subs in some respects. I've seen people with 50 viewers and no partner status making more money than people with twice that. I know for a fact just going by data available I make more than people with twice my viewership (I'm only at 15 for now) purely through gifted subs and bits. All communities are different, and Partner status honestly doesn't mean too much unless you're one of the big boys getting featured and having a bigger cut.

Followers matter if you have VODs and clips enabled on your channel as followers who can't participate live might participate on their off time.

It's not the individual followers I feel nothing about, I appreciate the people who come in and spend their time watching and/or hanging out, it's the individual number that I don't care for and think is essentially meaningless.

Fact is a majority of people follow and literally never come back, and that isn't just small streamers it's everyone. There's people with tens of thousands of followers and MAYBE a couple hundred viewers, which is why I think it's not really a great number to represent progress.
