I can tell you with a straight face that those two contributed to their surge. Aloe because it brought saviorfags who felt for her and got to check out Hololive. Also the rumors that it was Niji fan’s fault contribute soured how people looked at Nijisanji. I’m saying this because this was one of the most picked rrats among the normies and people outside.
And it was the whole Taiwan thing that blew Hololive the fuck up. People saw the bullshit in the situation and rallied against the chinks who were already universally hated. Then you have the EN girls like Gura who supported Coco and so it blew the fuck up in popularity that even the normal of normalfags somehow found a way into Hololive.

For Nijisanji to have the same boom, they have to do some controversy that’s heavy and retarded but not directly at them, at least not entirely. Then they prob have a chance to pull in similar incline but its still not going to be enough cause they waited too fucking long for the EN debut. At this stage the market is way too saturated and they’re be competing with shit like Vshojo..

Isn't it a bit late to start an EN branch now?
Most of the hype around VTubers has died out already and if you didn't secure a piece of the pie by now, it's going to be quite difficult to capture a large audience I imagine.
I feel like most people's reception to this will just be "Oh great, another vtuber *yawn*".
The first few weeks might have some hype since people want to check out hololive's "competition", but I don't think most will stay for long.

It's not that simple, the algorithm doesn't care about the streamer's language but the region their viewers come from, since the goal is targeted advertising. Japanese advertisers give 0 shits about the content of the vtuber so the stream is "safe" as long as the majority of viewers are Japanese. The more EOPs start watching their streams the more Youtube's algorithm will start pushing English-focused ads and the more it'll punish them for their content not being friendly to those advertisers. These aren't the opt-out ads you can turn off either, they're the ads Youtube forces into all content so the only solution is just not pandering to EOPs at all.

If hololive wanted, they could focus less on maximizing EN ads and sponsorships, and more on edgy/funny entertainment (non-kid friendly) in hopes it will grow the holo streamers and make up for some of the loss you get by not being kid friendly, sort of like how some VTubers on Twitch approach it. Otherwise it’s possible that over time content could become boring if too watered down. Another possibility is for ninjisanji EN to attempt to take that edgy market rather than directly compete with Holo’s family-friendly content head on in the exact same market.

if you go back and look at auditions to debuts you'll see that gen 3 was 1.5 months (though rushia and peko debuted even earlier due to being scouted prior), gen 4 was also about the same, ID1 was just over a month.
gen 5 is the only outlier taking just over 4 months - most likely due to covid and the various other things cover was going through at the time
then EN and ID2 were both about 3 months each
EN is technically the second least 'rushed' gen in the entire fucking company
