the magic of vtubers has always been seeing the perspective of failed normalfags, outcasts, and general weirdoes who previously struggled to find a wageslave career they don't absolutely hate
they have this platform where they can express their creativity, make connections otherwise not possible, and be themselves for literally once in their lives
and there are more of them, in more niches, and with more support now than ever
the only people who are still seriously whining about corpo politics are children who grew up with twitch streaming and youtube react content, one of the lowest forms of consumers

Mayuzumi graduation. I liked to believe I watched vtubers with the curtains open from the beginning. I didn't really care if they were all fake, lying, working for tone deaf companies, I am just watching to waste time and put a smile on my face with antics and cuteness. I am here for the show even if it isn't believable. But it was like the final curtain opened. That pinpoint moment where he announced it, my passion evaporated, and I'm someone who (still) has merch on my walls and keys, and even learned how to use Live2D from how invested I got.
Before this, I was beginning to get annoyed with the whole concept when I realized even the offshoot youtubers I watch who mingle with my favorite chuubas, also had to deal with corporation influences and rabid fans despite being 3D dudes who live in mountains of trash. The fun and games aspect was waning a bit when an article promoting ROF-MAO made vtubers who I viewed as being wholly chill and moving at their own pace, into robots, with the added worry that they were pretty flippant about the long filming days and filming while sick. The indies I liked started to lose their flair and felt sanitized. Even the ones with single digit viewers, I got bored with, because while they maintain integrity and basically do comfy vlogs, I finally woke up to how repetitive it was.
I also realize, now that I stopped watching streams, I have lost this "guilt" as a viewer which is nice.
>my oshi feels bad so I feel bad
>people are annoyed at my oshi/annoyed at his associate so I feel responsible
>a vtuber got doxxed so I am anxious
I don't think those things anymore. You may laugh at these thoughts but this entire board is mired in them, tribalism doesn't only mean fighting the other tribe. It also means attaching yourself to the metaphorical tribe and making their issues your issues.
I still browse this board because even if I haven't renewed memberships in months or sat down for a stream since the summer, I have been addicted to this site for over a decade. Thanks for reading my blog.

There is simple a lack of talent, you just pick your favourite one, that is gonna stream games like the rest and thats it.
I watch JP chuubas Vods for ASMR since EN sucks in that regard. Decent singers (Live stream) we only have Enna and Irys.

Realized my oshi never gave a shit about me (or anyone else really). I never expected her to love me or anything like that, I knew that would be delusional and setting myself up for disappointment, but at least care about what they do and care about their viewers. You know, keeping a schedule, telling them to stop paying memberships when they move platforms, play a game or chat instead of putting on videos and cookie clicker while being bored on stream, accept criticism and I mean real criticism, not just sitting on them.
After I stopped watching them I didn't participate in any other community for a while until I started watching another one, and while it was fine for a while the same thing happened. They were always late, they blamed others for their own mistakes and never admitted to them, etc.
It feels like being spit on the face when you spend your time watching and put in effort to make art and complete projects. It's partly my fault for choosing shit people to watch, but it got tiring.

First the meltdown about permissions severely limited what they could play because of greedy fucking companies like Nintendo and Squeenix effectively deleting 80% of their possible content, mostly things I liked to watch.
Secondly, Coco started poisoning the rest of the branch after pandering to reddit, and causing ARK streams to fill up entire schedules with 10h of content for 5min of "funny".
And lastly EN debut and pandering to the west with the blandest possible people made talking about the hobby impossible and generated people like the majority of this board.

In other words, they can't and won't make the content I liked watching them for anymore. Even Nijisanji slowed down.
And my oshi graduated.

I can agree with this. I guess what I'm really trying to say is that to pin it on the SEA boogeyman just kinda reeks of xenophobia and doesn't seem terribly grounded in reality.

>When did the magic and fun of vtubers start to die off for (you)?

I just slowly got bored of it. I got into Myth, got bored. Got into NijiEN, got overwhelmed when they started adding the boys. There are some indies I still watch since I always saw VTubers as more of a small-scale experience, but there aren't many; and after finding some disappointing truths about who I had as an oshi, I lost all excitement I had for her and I'm sure it'll kill all my interest in the industry as a whole.

I still love Sui-chan and Roboco so maybe if I finally start doing my reps I'll use them for it, but I just got bored of VTubers, I guess.

>If you watch less now, will it ever become an everyday hobby for you again and what would it take?

I don't think so. Maybe if I befriended another one, I'd support them and their stream like I've done in the past, but I don't think I'm gonna put myself on that situation again.

I'm not sure if you're replying to the right anon. But don't take away that I truly think they're all fake 24/7, I was just being bitter and generalizing. I do (to a lesser degree now as I'm not losing sleep over streams) love my oshi. I wake up to his face on my wall every day still despite not wanting to watch streams. I listen to vtuber music still. Gossip was not the thing that was the final push out of my obsession, just being irritated with growing rigidity. I am not alone in this, and it hit especially hard when SEEDs discussed how things have changed 'from the old days'.
I mean, I am here admitting I am a fan of Nijisanji males. If gossip would make me hate everything I would have stopped watching ages ago as anything said on this board pales in comparison to outside of it, /vt/ is an oasis when it comes to discussion of Japanese males. No comment on EN boys since their stuff never really appealed to me, and I am not being tribalistic but it just felt too astroturfed and oversexual.
Reminds me a bit of how Jerma's humor is deteriorating so hard due to popularity that he pulled a "haha googling 'sidon shoving it down your throat' oh wow I didn't expect PORN to show up!" joke, and people ate it up

Around a year ago, not much interesting stuff was happening, streams felt like they were getting more and more repetitive, lacked variety, plus getting dissapointed by some decisions from the corpos I watched and new vtubers I found not grabbing my interest or dissapointing me, combined with the ones I watched and was interested on having schedules that were horrible for me, getting busier with non-stream related stuff and reducing the amount of streams they put out caused me to lose gradually lose interest in the hobby.
Add to that browsing this hellhole of a board daily without fully blocking out the shit spewed here and my interest only plummeted futher (I actually had a period of enjoying the hobby much more again after severely reducing the amount of time I spent /here/, but it didn't last long) and nowadays I mostly just watch clips if that.

I haven't really watched a stream in over a year. My magic died when I touched the apex, when Suisei beat Aqua in the mario kart tournament and cried of joy, while Aqua cried in pain. After that it was back to regularly scheduled programming of lazy minecraft and shovelware dogshit steam horror games.

Sorry if I was confusing. What I meant is that I had no idea that I would actually start giving a shit about vtubers anymore, but somehow here I am, a few minutes after making my first visit to /mans/ to tell them how funny the Tempus boys are. It seemed like you were done with vtubing completely, so I thought I'd my experience.
I said "laugh at me if you want" because my oshi is Lumi and half the time people will call you a shill if you mention PC or Pippa or Lumi unprompted.

Then yes, I am sort of done with vtubing completely, at least until I get the spark back again which probably won't happen, as a good majority of my favorites are (still) Nijisanji. Being able to tune out the drivel said online and judge for yourself is what made me love vtubers in the first place, and the fact that some of them interacted with people I've been a fan of for almost a decade helped.
If I had to condense my reasoning: It's not the people behind the avatars or the people watching the streams,, but the boxes the vtubers are being put in, that turned me away finally.

Never really happened to me. As a mostly HoloJP watcher, they're still hard carrying the scene as far as I'm concerned.
They've hit some bump in the road but they always demonstrated to be able to get back on their feet and keep pushing forward.
Hell, one of my favorite streams ever, Pekker's Rust S2 finale, took place barely a month ago.
I just love group dynamics and I think they are still one of the strongest examples of why I do.

I guess with Ame and the homo stuff?
I never really thought too critically about it, never questioned if I was actually enjoying it, just watched cute girls be cute and kinda retarded, have fun with their friends, pull off their little projects, etc. It brought me pretty consistent enjoyment for about two years, never really had any complaints. Then Ame told people like me to fuck off (albeit more nicely put) and that burst that bubble. My enjoyment came naturally and I doubt it's something that could really be replicated or rekindled even if I tried to force it. Without Ame I still have a couple holos and indies I watch but I don't feel any investment in any of it now. It felt fun to be a hololive fan I suppose, now I just don't care.

I was watching 3D collab from hololive girls that i had really been looking forward to, and realised halfway through i wasn't enjoying myself at all.

But the magic is not dead for me, it ended up changing to different target. HolostarsJP had their first live concert coming up last december and I bought a ticket since i wanted to see how cover does male idol concerts. It was great. The MC sections got me more curious about the guys, and after the concert i started watching their streams. Sometimes i still go to hololive channels because two of my main oshi collab with few of them. It's like visiting an old friend whenever that happens.

I still watch vtubers every day, but I probably watch my oshi a little less, partially because she streams less than she used to and partially because there's only so many mario/elden ring streams I can stomach.

I'm probably going to keep watching vtubers for the foreseeable future because vtuber asmr has more or less cured my insomnia. I just need to get a more comfortable pair of headphones.

Did you sift through copious amounts of homoerotic fanart and laugh over how the usual /vt/ browsing experience just got flipped on its head?

>> No.34220361

Never lol. I only watch clips and streams for games or watchalongs of media that I like or media discussions which I treat like podcasts (vtubers tend to have way better voices than your average film/anime podcaster). I have no interest in any other content other than for a quick giggle or interesting storytime or interesting event. I have an oshi duck but I only watch her anime streams because having a cute anime girl feeling emotional over old anime I like is a nice sensation and helps revive my nostalgia for these old works and spurs me on to one day make art that has the same effect. I can only imagine myself hard falling for someone and watching them religiously if somehow there's a vtuber who has Subaru's or Kronii's voice and does in-depth analysis of Heidegger or Romantic Poets or Picasso or something. Otherwise, why care so much about this shit? (Incidentally if any of you are women who have the voice an interest in educating the public on the deeper humanities and classics, please please please consider becoming a vtuber. There is an untapped corner of the market you can cover. I would shower you in sweet sweet greens)
