Do you guys think purposely trying to avoid swearing/sexual stuff, or possibly even explicitly labeling myself as family friendly would help or hurt my potential in the long run? It's not like it would be very hard on my part, I already almost never talk about anything sexual and swearing is rare enough that I could completely stop if I wanted to. I kind of already am trying to go for a fairly wholesome experience, no politics or other types of unpleasant things and just trying to be entertaining in kind of a happy and uplifting kind of way but none of that has been put down in rules or anything. I just want to be entertaining and sociable and maybe even a bit wholesome for people.

Oh, and I am a male by the way. I know I have seen females do this kind of thing before with some success but don't know if such a thing might hinder males particularly badly.

If I listen to him a little bit I can certainly get into his rhythm of talking but even then it takes a bit more mental energy to keep up with than I normally want to expend. As long as you are consistant in when you stream you can get viewers at any time. On one hand there are fewer viewers to go around, but on the other hand you have way less competition. So it kind of evens out. Personally I stream starting pretty late and I have been growing pretty well. I think the only negative is that there is a bit of a hard cap of the max size that you can eventually get to.

Yeah, all the time. Generally its a good idea to try streaming/vtubing out a bit before going all in and spending serious money on an expensive model. Not that you cant do that, but there are a ton of cases of people spending hundreds to thousands of dollars, realizing that streaming isnt really for them, and then quitting after a month or two.

Alternatively if you want to spend a small amount of cash you can get a decent premade live2d over on booth for not too much money and use that for quite a while. Hell, you can even customize the live 2d models just using props or even just changing the colors in your files that you get.

People will say twitch has better discoverability for smaller streamers since it has recommended streams, you can sort by game or category and go through the whole list of everyone that's live you might get a raid, etc etc. I don't know how true that is because there's a sea of 0 views as is, and twitch only shows you if you're live at that very moment. If you're not streaming you don't exist to the feed.

Downsides are the twitch culture, both what is expected of streamers and what the chat is like. Agree or disagree with that if you want, but the real big issue with twitch is the fact that your vods get nuked after only 1 week, or if you're partnered 2 months. I find that intolerable as a content creator, to have all your hard work and maybe even your best moments just erased after such a short time period. There's a few streamers that I watch occasionally that have a very patchy schedules and sometimes it's like going to a brand new channel with how empty their vod archive is, or I miss out on half of a game I actually wanted to see them play just because it's been too long.

I also find all of the tech behind vtubing to be very interesting and am excited to see where Live2D, 3D tracking and augmented reality will take this medium in the future. Sharing viewers with one another that you’re directly competing for is a terrible idea, and it doesn’t work for growth (no shit if the former is true). It would be different if the there was an opportunity for overlap in audience, but in 2view hell the attention of viewers is small and in this /here/ adjacent community stretched super thin. Literally not enough hours in the day for viewers to be shared across consecutive streams from different channels - at least, not viewers who aren’t already watching another dozen streamers in a consecutive manner.

I don’t really see the problem with it, they’re probably aware of this (or just misguided), and unless they care about streaming professionally it shouldn’t matter. They are probably just having fun doing a little quiz night.

I think the problem is less that sharing viewers is bad so much as collabs are bad content for small streamers. It completely removes the reason anyone would watch small streamers for in the first place, namely the very high levels of personal chat/streamer interaction.

I think most people who have streamed a lot at 0 views and slightly higher will tell you the same thing. Even on a stream to stream basis it takes maybe 15 to 30 minutes to go past 1-2 ccv, then it will go steadily up pretty quickly until I hit whatever peak I can hit. Often it takes one of my few regulars to jumpstart this process.

So I started playing a game and the views for the vods on that game are much bigger than the rest. I usually alternate between games for my streams, should I keep pushing with this one game ignoring the other ones (I'm 1view with them) or just keep alternating.
