Here's the rub, whether it's some online dude, genki, Bob's Nihongo for Homosexual Cruising, JPZ, whatever... you have to find a method that clicks with how you learn. It's a difficult language but if you try one and it just completely filters you... try something else. JPZ's method for hiragana and katakana clicked for me but their kanji lessons didn't work for me so I switched to Remembering the Kanji. That worked with my brain. Your brain might only work with anki decks or some other shit. Never give up, never surrender.
