Gura had something special with her karaoke, but she's kind of frittered it away with how little she uses it outside of members and not releasing songs. Singing and dancing is a way to document one's progress/dreams and a way of giving to fans as a way to show appreciation and the effort you've put into the dream you've built together. To oshi means to push, meaning giving them support in every way possible to get them to the top and support their dreams. The idol understands that she's nothing without her fans, and that her success rides on their support. In return, the fans get to be part of that and also be inspired and appreciated by their oshi.

I don't really agree, normal influencers have casual audiences for the most part. There are more emotions involved with idols (usually they're opposite sex) and they're called your 'oshi' because of the fundamental concept of supporting them actively. It still has part of the DNA from idol groups.

Still a flawed perspective because there are tons of vtubers that have the same kind of relationship with chat and still no one calls them idols. The singing, dancing, meetings and events are integral to being an idol, not just because of the music per se, but because the dedication and work required for everything and fans KNOW about it, which is why some vtuber who releases covers once a month isn't automatically an idol, but someone like Towa or Botan can be called one even if they don't behave like one all the time.

The whole thing doesn't get rolling unless the particular relationship can be formed between the idol and her fans without other things being in the way. The relationship is more integral to the concept than singing and dancing, not the other way around.
