What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. I hate the discourse around mental health. I especially hate how prone some people are to wallow in their mental illnesses online. "I have depression, so that means I will always be depressed. I have anxiety, so that means I will always be anxious."
This isn't to say that some people really do have genuine mental issues, but the way some people are so eager to just give up on improving themselves or actually working towards their goals just because they got a diagnosis (or worse, a self-diagnosis) upsets me. I can't shake the feeling that these kinds of people are mostly sad because they know they're lying to themselves. You are supposed to cope with depression, not surrender to it. A refusal to cope is just laziness, not depression.

I want you to make it anon. But I don't believe your approach is the right way to come into streaming. Your mentality going in shouldn't be "how do I do this successfully?" because the people who succeeded are not you. Some are females. Some have talents. Some had dumb luck by blowing up on a particular game. The market is saturated and shits hard to get in. Should you give up? No, but it won't be easy. Trying to fit yourself into a "successful model" where there are too many factors out of your control is maddening. You'll only end up burning yourself out.

Do you genuinely enjoy playing videogames? Do you genuinely enjoy interacting with others? Why do you want to stream? You should look internally for factors that motivate you instead of seeking external factors that you aren't sure of yourself. Because personally I think you are already pretty good at identifying flaws in yourself- but not character strengths. That is an issue. Why? Because if you can't identify what makes you enjoyable and unique- you can't improve.

For example: you mentioned you suck at videogames. However people can still find enjoyment in seeing you try and you might find enjoyment in finally getting good. Maybe you're a good loser. Maybe you articulated to your audience where you went wrong. Maybe you make a funny joke or made a mad remark that gets ppl engaged. Maybe you're willing to get good. "Success" isn't just "I do good at [x] thing" its whether you engage with ppl and they engage with you.

Stream anyways. Embrace being shitty for awhile. But do something you enjoy. Look back at your VODs and identify what you did RIGHT- not just what you did wrong.
