Rap has always been cringe. I don't like or listen to rap but it's just made worse for Mori because most of her overcoming negative experience is through other peoples perception of her. Only so many songs you can listen too about "fuck the haters". You could always go talking about your beliefs/worldview but that steers into political territory which Cover/vtubers want to avoid in music. So cover can only really make things work with Jpop and rock due to their inoffensive, apolitical nature.
One issue I do have with vtubers is it does set up the artist to be humiliated. I really love Suisei and I wish her the best, but that itself is the problem. I'm talking about her as a person, not her as a musician. Vtubers have fans that will obviously have bias and go easier on them than if they listened to some random song on the radio performed by the same person. For honest feedback she would need to release music under a different name and hope no one notices the voice. Vtubers exist in a bubble and outside of that bubble people are far less kind.
