I used to think about it a lot, the male debuff. But you know what the males have that the females will never have? They can know that their followers and viewers actually like watching them because they like their content, without any of the weird creepy sexual shit. The first time I did a stream that got 10 ccv felt so damn good. People I had organically attracted over weeks and seen multiple times since were all gathered to watch my content and hang out with me because they either liked me or liked my content. Sure it took many times longer to get to that point than the random female does, but posting your link on a creeper discord or here to be watched by a dozen orbiter creeps who rotate among a bunch of other similar females isn't something to be proud of. And you know that weird fake start is always at the back of their mind no matter how big they manage to get. Every time somebody in their chat acts inappropriately towards them they can't help but think I'll that this is who their entire audience basically is. No, as a male you can be proud that you put in the hours as a 0 view, working to improve yourself and your content to the point where people start genuinely liking you and appreciating your craft. Being a female might seem like an enviable position at first, but it's a poison pill that would remove much of what I have found so fun about being a vtuber.

That is why I got the Wave XLR, but as it turns out the actual amplifier circuitry only gives you about 52 dB of analog gain. The rest is digital. For whatever reason I was getting a little too much noise for my taste so I decided to try out a preamp since the Wave can supply phantom power. It took care of the issue. Maybe I could fiddle with it some more to remove the preamp, but I'm satisfied with the result and it's not worth the trouble to sell. If I do go with another interface that needs it later I'll already have it.

All that you need is good debut marketing; most people who show up to your debut may not show up again to your other streams, but you can get a huge advantage by joining Discords, befriending people, sharing your debut around, etc.
I'm speaking as someone who got about 50 viewers for her debut with a Vroid model that looked kind of meh.
The good model helps a lot, but generally if you're good at marketing you can even counter a bad model debuff.

Vtubers as a concept should not try so hard to separate themselves so heavily from any other kind of entertainment, the lines between a normal streamer and a vtuber should simply be blurrier. There's a lot of things Vtubers do that don't make sense in the greater context of independent entertainment, and it's something I think should mostly be changed. If you're a Vtuber, you're more than just playing a role. You ARE that character. Striving for believability is integral to the warranty of your career's existence. Mixed media, in this case, is near-essential to fulfilling the inherent need for immersion that this brand of streaming incites, and so by that, to only collab with other Vtubers is, frankly, stupid. A Vtuber is a streamer just like any other.

tl;dr Ultimately, my whole thing is that we should take a step back and look objectively at ourselves, our efforts, and what's being made, and honestly determine the actual value we bring to the table relative to what other people who are already at the top are making (and I'm not just talking about Vtubers here).

I did this. I had fun recording the audition but according to youtube they didn't listen to much of it at all. I think they look at your numbers and they have a certain threshold. Like if you have at least 50K subs on yt they'll listen or watch your audition, or if you're a streamer you must at least have 200-500 consistent views before they even open up your application form and such. I'm convinced that's how they do it, otherwise they'd take way longer to hire people if they gave an equal chance to everyone.

I think the lines are already very blurred. Maybe they're too blurred. The world doesn't need more game of the month or hot tub asmr streamers but with anime characters. Only a few are doing events like virtual concerts and there are many more possibilities that have not been explored.
