Indies have had superior models for the past 2 years.
These "updates" Gen1 are getting are fixed animation assets of the likes they already have, well some have. Like how some can place their hands in certain locations. This update is that but more.
Indies have had hand-tracked L2D for the past year at least, and entire bodies for some of the more experimental ones. Yes, L2D, not 3D.
When Cover stop using an ancient version of L2D, they could easily do it as well and save their riggers a metric fuckload of wasted time and prevent another Gura incident because it is practically impossible to fuck up now unless you do it deliberately. Modern L2D is leaps and bounds above the ancient shit the likes of Cover and Anycolor use.

I remember being told that Cover uses that shit L2D because before the idol shit, they were a tech company and created the version they use, so they have full rights to it or whatever. at this point, it's something like brand loyalty to continue using the piece of shit with their name on it rather than something that works

Gen 1 is unironically the best gen now that fantasy got nerfed. Maybe HoloX can compete, but that's it.

They hire people to fix their shitheap instead of buying a superior car they could never make if they tried.
Modern L2D is so good it's not funny how stubborn they are in using that shit. As I say, it's practically impossible to do another Gura incident because the system handles all the riggings hard bits for you. Where they manually have to align every fucking animation frame for every angle of movement and it taking months, you can shit out a superior rig in a 1-4 weeks depending on complexity with all that hard stuff done for you automatically.
Who knows, maybe I am wrong, maybe they have finally updated with this, but I'm not holding my breath, it didn't look all that special in the reveal.

Feel the same, its a shame they don't bring in numbers but this also gives their communities a comfier feel to them. Gen1 has a magic that no other Gen has; might not appeal to everyone but its great.

Having mouse/gamepad movement modelled on their computer inputs is really clever, and will probably be far less scuffed than phone-based hand tracking

Gen 2 like I said barely streams sans choco and Subaru
Gen 3 lost its magic for sure, pekora tries but it hasn't been the same really
Gen 4 is don't after coco, the only time they collabed this year was through that management mandated thing during the Golden week, they only collabed twice after coco's graduation.
Gen 5 and beyond just have that new feel to them and they're good but it's not exactly what I'm looking for
