Yes and no. They're playing cute anime girls so it's in character, and using a different voice protect their anonimity. My few experiences with maid cafe confirmed that this is really cringe in person, though apparently this cutesy bs isn't strictly restricted to otaku-oriented businesses.

That said, I really wish they could use their real, especially since it'd give them a lot more range for their singing. The chubas basically operate at 70%, and it annoys me.

Part of what attracted me to watching more Nijisanji I think. A lot of their most prominent girls don't force a high pitched voice. Mito, Gibara, Lize, Ange, Inui and so on.

Some of the issues are also that there normal speaking voices don’t match their models sometimes. Gura for example would need an aged up version, otherwise it would sound weird coming out of her current model.
