Those member streams were not “member streams” in the traditional sense. They were marked as public streams that would be swapped to members only upon start. You can be a greyname sitting in the member stream and you’ll still be listed when it changes over. Also that Miko stream was notorious because she literally forgot to swap it over so she had like 10-15 minutes of public “member” content.
This is just one example. Pekora had 8k+ waiting for her member stream because of public listing as well after her live.

Actual membership content gets way less exposure. Anons here talked a month or so back about Aqua and Kobo’s membership numbers and Aqua’s member only song had like 12k views at the time, which was 2/3 the views of a typical Gura member stream for example.

Luxiem case is an interesting one: they completely dominate a market Hololive never had a foothold abroad: boy vtubers. It’s not even possible to compare NijiEN boys with HoloEN because the market overlap is non existent.

But that’s an absolute niche with a very particular set of fans, I genuinely don’t think they got anywhere close to “dancing duck” popularity in the west or anywhere else.
