Right, you still have to be funny. A "brotuber" sounds like a recipe for failure since nobody wants to be your friend. Just be an entertainer first and foremost, and don't have a sexy avatar. That's how you appeal to the male fanbase as a male yourself. The only way I would watch a male vtuber is if he was significantly funnier/better than his female peers AND if he didn't feel like a slimeball.
But now that I think about it, I think another idea would be an actually intelligent autist who's just really into some sort of interesting topic and actually knows a lot about it. He would have to know how to articulate himself and have a pleasant voice, but I'd probably tune in to someone like that if the topic was right. (It's asking a lot though. Why would anyone intelligent become a vtuber?) But again, no "brotuber" bullshit, I don't want to "hang out". That works for female chuubas because I find women attractive and crave female companionship. For men, standards are way higher. Unless you provide quality and preferably something unique, there's no reason to watch.
The cringe factor is also different. If you do something dumb as a woman, it can be cute. If you do the same as a dude, you probably just seem like an idiot.

I just want a chuuba who's full on chuuni and into mecha. Doing Gunpla building streams, making customs with the colors and motifs of their model, have entire zatsudan/just chatting streams that talk about mecha and mecha anime (or anime in general), and sperg out about their other interests and likes.
