Really, the biggest problem I have with MAL is people deferring to its ratings and rankings as a source of authority, without knowing the extent to which insane loser fandoms are fighting and review bombing each other behind the scenes. The community (of losers) basically controls all of the ratings, and the MAL ratings have also become one of the first things that anime noobs will look to see what the best anime are.
