Crappiest chuuba in hololive may be Sora. Yes, she's hardworking sweet girl without whom Hololive wouldn't exist and that will never change but as an entertainer she's very low tier. She's always getting featured in posters and various events as the face of Hololive and she has that daisenpai status thus everyone knows her and yet she barely pulls any CCV or SCs revenue. People often shit on Roboco, Aki, Choco or Mel but since I rarely watch them it's hard to compare them to Sora. However, I'm quite certain that if Sora's VA debuted as an indie now without any of her fans knowing she probably wouldn't get more than 100 CCV simply because she's very bland.

Not crappy as in ability/quirks, but some members lack of stream without reason irks me. Those members can show up once in blue moon and gains viewers and SC when there are some members that keep grinding and don't get it

However, it still doesn't change the fact that she was pretty much no one until a bunch of kouhais debuted and by the time 3rd gen debuted she was already getting carried hard by way more popular members. Well OP of this thread never said what constitutes a crappy vtuber so everyone is free to interpret it the way they see fit. IMO, of all the Hololive members I watch/have seen in the past she simply doesn't have anything to really set her apart in any meaningful way so she ends up being like 500 other bland vtubers that don't really stand out. In anime setting where MCs are Marine/Pekora/Gura/Aqua and few other Holos, Sora would be that 1 side character who shows up for 1 minute and then gets killed off by random villain attack. But yeah, that's just my personal view of her and everyone's is free to disagree.

I think it's very simple, besides what other anons have said, scarcity breeds demand. I think this is why Hololive in general can still rake in money despite overall not streaming nearly as much as their rivals. This is basically Nintendo's business strategy, especially with consoles. Spend a lot of time initially gaining a passionate and loyal fanbase, then deliberately starve them of future content, releasing it piecemeal. This gets people talking, and when the content does drop or replenish, people get FOMO and rush to it, since they genuinely don't know when it's going to come again, and they want to experience it live with other people. Ayame did do this, probably unintentionally, as she streamed quite a lot initially, but dropped off later.

I also think this is something the holos in general have done unintentionally, but the overall effect is the same. It's part of the reason unarchived karaokes get so many more CCV's than all other types of streams. FOMO's very powerful. It's lost (and made) people millions, sometimes billions, on many occasions.

Another thing is time. People don't like getting into things that look like they're gonna take too much time, since that's a hard commitment to make. Ayame is a very easy commitment to make since she has comparatively little material vs. her coworkers, and it's easy to keep up with her as a streamer. If something is going to take a lot of time, people take refuge in the familiar and the comfortable, for vtubers, a nice model and a cute voice/demeanor. Haachama not only streams more, but you don't know what to expect. This makes that investment hard for people who have finite time and a comfort zone, which is most people.
